Sam Robinson, city marshal of Hutstown, and M. Cook of the same place went to Dudley's ranch, near creek, yesterday accompanied by their Nstres, to look np some cattle whioh tbey were trying to buy.

While taking dinner, Deputy Sheriff Short, a Woodsdale man, ac companied by fire, other Woodsdale men, i rode no to the rxsrtr and asked Robinson to surrender, as he bad a warrant i ii i i go a short distance from camp, leaving Cook and the ladies behind, and then give his enemies a chance to take him. He did eo and upon reaching a convenient spot both parties opened with the result that four Woodsdale men were killed. The other two fled and Robinson escaped withoot a i scratch. Cook hastened to Hugs-tnvn nrl mm eh eljirm and soon an armed squad went to their assistance. Meet ing a lot of woodsdale men an encounter took place in which three more persons were (killed and a number wounded.

According to the informant the whole county is at war. John Cross, sheriff of Btevens county, was one of tbe men killed in the second fight. The names of tbe other men killed could not be learned. James Merrard, deputy sheriff of Stevens county, gives the following account of the affair: A warrant had been Issued to E. Bhort, constable and city marshal of Woods-dale, for the arrest of Sam Robinson.

Robinson had gone to tbe neutral strip, and Bhort and two others went after him. Sheriff Cross, hearing that Bhort and his posse had been corralled in the strip, started wit four men to their relief, but could not find them, and started beck: up the trail end went into camp. While asleep the Hugstown party surprised and disarmed them and made them stand up in line and shot them, killing four and wounding one. The four supposed killed were Sheriff R. Hob-bard, W.

Eaton and R. Wilcox. H. Long was wounded. The latest report is that even men have been killed.

Xunn, arrived today from the seat of war in Stevens county. Both of them were eye witnesses to the running fight between the Sheriff and his party from Woodsdale and the Hugstown men. EU Bryant, a negro, was hanged by a'mob near Starkville, today for an assault upon a white woman.

Steve Brodie was arrested tonight by the society for the prevention of cruelty to children, charged with abducting sixteen year old Gertrude Lord from Albany. Gertrude, who is said to be the daughter of a wealthy Albanian, fell in love with Brodie when he was at Albany and followed him when he swam to this city.

She was living with him when the arrest was made. Brodie says he will marry her. Again Arraigned. Trutton, Ontario, July 27. a Nilson of Atlanta, who absconded, was arraigned again today but the evidence disclosed no ottense for which he be tried and the case was remanded till next Tueedav to give tbe prosecution time to obtain further evidence.

Arrested for Stealing. Porilahd, July King tight driver, and Frank Anderson, night clerk of the Pacific office here, have been arrested and have confessed that they stole tbe 10,000 package from the company's oQlea.
