Earlier, she had lived in Northwest Township, Ohio. She was born in Williams County, Ohio, Nov. 5, 1913, a daughter of Herman and Almeda Goshorn Flickinger. She's 83 years old, has had both knees crushed in an auto accident and has a bad heart. But she has built three cabins from the foundations up and she sets up her own stand at the fair, doing the carpentry work and the setting up. Each year for many years the fair board has donated the space for Mrs. Nolan's stand. And a tent company By MAISIE BROWN lives at rte.

You'd think homesteading next to the Cheyenne Indian reservation and driving her family to Florida in a model Ford, among many other things, would be enough.

But this little, vivacious greatgrandmother is always ready for the next adventure. This is Anna Nolan who sells oyster stew. Her stand is at the north end of the race track in the grove. Look for a sign that says, "Oyster House." She made the sign, too! She's done so many well, for instance: Back in 1924 she was widowed. She lived in Battle Creek and had three children.

An older daughter was married and living in Florida. She wrote, "Mom, why don't you come down here and settle?" So Grandma Nolan had an auction. When she had paid off all the bills she had $2 left. Off they went and had two flats on the 1917 Model before they left town. "I found my way to Florida by following the Sparks Circus.

I'd set up a hot dog stand wherever the circus stopped to make money for food for us and gas for the car." She had bought some canvas and made what was possibly the first car-tent in existence. "I got so I could set up that tent and serve sandwiches to the children in 20 minutes. That Ford car brought Mrs. Nolan to the Hillsdale Fair for many years. It became almost her trademark.

Now she's on old age assistance the agency made her sell the car. But she has built a small model of it and you will see it on a post in front of her stand. She has used it for her mail box! There are three daughters and a son living now, 15 grandchildren and "Land, I don't know 1 how many great-grandchildren." This little grandma with more spunk and fun in her soul than the average teen-ager, bought five acres south of East Jordan in 1948. She built one cabin each year for three years. "The darned ground was so hard I had to take a pick-axe to 'bust the hole for the foundation." Since her accident, Mrs.

Nolan has had to keep a wheel chair handy. "I can't walk more'n about two blocks afore I get tired. Then I can lean on the thing and go a little more." Well, her brother will come down Sunday and help her all week at the stand. But she prefers to have this time to herself. "I just like to do things by myself.

As long as the good Lord gives me strength, I'll keep pluggin' away. All this hard work is a real pleasure!" Her home is now in Battle Creek. She mentions casually that last week she crawled up on a high ladder and papered her brother's large living room. Oh well, don't we And neighbors were surprised one day last April when there was a heavy snowfall. "Oh, the air was so grand and there was Spring in the breeze.
