Concordia did about everything right as it racked up a total of 447 yards on offense to the favored Tigers' 243. Concordia started the scoring on a two-yard pass play from Rod Giesselmann to Brian Na-ber. Then Doane's Mike Sal-Jier was tackled in the end zone for a safety.

Another pass and two more runs accounted for scores. But to cap it a freshman, defensive end Ronald Kollmeyer recovered a fumble on the 40 and raced in for another score. Neal scored on a burst from three yards out.

Miller blooped the next kickoff but he recovered the accidental onside kick at the Hastings 38. On the very first play Copple arched a long one to Bob Blake for East's final TD. After a slow third quarter in which neither team gained a first down until Hastings registered three in a row in the closing moments, the visitors tallied on the first play of the final period on a two-yard run by Steve Jones. It was Hastings only threat, while East managed one other drive which gained the Tigers eight before stalling with just 24 seconds remaining. Wesleyan Romps By Midland, 31-0 By VIRGIL PARKER Pprep Sports Writer East High exploded with four first half touchdowns, two of them coming in a space of just 18 seconds, then coasted to a 28-6 football victory over Hastings at Seacrest Field Saturday night.

The Spartans of coach Lee Zentic, who scored the same number of points last week while losing to Grand Island, used a strengthened defense to insure the win. "We made some changes in our defense this week and promoted a few kids," Zentic revealed. "I was pleased with our pursuit. There was some real hitting out there." At the same time junior quarterback Scott 1 engineered a potent attack. The first chance the Spartans had they marched 78 yards from their own 22 to paydirt in a sustained drive of 13 plays that earned five first downs.

Halfback Kent Reckewey got it started with a five yard gainer, then caught a Copple aerial for 19 more. After sprinting for 11, Reckewey snared another pass for nine and East was on the Spartans 27 yard line. Then Copple flipped one to Marry Reighard for 18 yards to the nine from where Jack Ball took a Copple pitchout and skirted right end for the score. Jon Miller split the uprights with the first of four straight conversions. Hastings was unable to move the ball, failing to register a single first dowm until the score mounted to 28-0 as East scored the first two times it had the ball and four of the first five times.

The second TD came after Jim Neal covered a fumble at the Hastings 40. Copple. needed two passes, a 13-yarder to Ball and a 27-yard toss to Reckeey for the score. Though stopped on their next possession the Spartans made up for it with the two quick tallies on the following chance. That built Wesleyan's edge to 100 after a 28-yard first period goal by Rick Boals. "I was real pleased with our overall team effort," Wesleyan coach Harold Chaffee said after his team picked up its second victory of the season without a loss. 'The defense played well and in the second half we left Mac on his own and he called a good game. Chaffee was referring to quarterback Steve McKelvey who passed for Wesleyan's second touchdown hitting Boals, his tight end with an 8-yarder in the third period. McKelvey, whose favorite target John McLaughlin missed the game because of an ankle injury suffered in last week's victory over Dana, accounted for most of Wesleyan's 147 passing yards.

The Plainsmen offense, which sputtered in the second half against Dana last week and managed only a field goal in the first half Saturday night although moving the ball freely, caught fire after the intermission. In addition to Boals touchdown grab in the third quarter Jimmy Ellis picked a Mike Kemling 1 at the Midland 12 after Kemling had taken a pass from McKelvey and carried in it for a fourth quarter TD. Bob Gill plunged over for another NWU touchdown from one yard out after a Dave McGrane to Rick Grell pass had moved the ball to the two. "We thought our blocking was better tonight," Chaffee said. Wesleyan's defenders allowed the Warriors only 29 yards rushing and 28 passing in the contest while intercepting three Midland passes. Theofiledes is 5-10. "That Eddie LeBaron wasn't Harry. "How tall was he? 5-7? Jones Biggest Problem To Cornhusker Defense "They say you have to have the height so you can see over those big linemen, but when they're 6-7, what's the difference if you're 6-4 or 5-10? You're not going to see over them. Every quarterback playing today is just like me. We're all not tall enough." Back in 1966 in Manhattan, there was a movement afoot to change the school colors of Kansas State from purple and white to a more desirable color scheme.

The move was shelved and then Vince Gibson arrived on the scene as football coach one of his first moves was to purchase a few purple dress shirts. Now they've got Purple' Pride eggs, Purple Pride Ice cream, Purple Pride bourbon and vodka, Purple and White checks, oodles of Purple clothing from shorts and socks to coats, Purple and White typewriters, Purple Power hot dogs, Purple and White mini-bikes, Purple Pride car sales, Purple Passion beer, Purple wool corsages, Purple pancakes, Purple panty hose and Purple shoestrings, Purple receiving blankets in ambulances and Purple water towers. Successful If In Pros After the final Blue touchdown in Kansas' last scrimmage of the fall, coach Pepper Rodgers rushed in with the kicking tee and attempted the extra point conversion which was short. "I guess I just choked," he quipped to writers later, but after studying the films the following day, he explained, "One thing the films showed was that if it had been a professional game, I'd have made it." He was referring to the fact that In pro football the goal posts are on the goal line while in college ball they're at the back of the end zone. Oklahoma's Owens Field long has been known as "The Snake Pit" to visiting teams and Missouri's Dan Devine gives one reason why It might be tough to win at OU.

"We've actually lost communication with our coaches in the press box," be explains, referring to the noise created by Sooner fans who are closer to the playing field than in other Big Eight stadiums. "I wouldn't say that it's ever affected the outcome of a game, but it's very difficult to play there because there are times when your headgear does you no good and you lost communication with your team." Cont. From Page ID The Nebraska defense, led by 'tackles Rich Glover and Dave Walline and linebacker Jerry Murtaugh limited the Trojans to only one yard in two plays with a first and goal to go from the five facing them. But they couldn't stop Jones. After taking the ensuing kick-off, Nebraska came right back to drive 74 yard3 In 10 plays in little more than two minutes to take the lead again at 14-7 with 54 seconds left in the half.

The big plays in the. drive were two passes from Tagge to Rodgers, the first for 25 yards to put the ball at the USC.15 and the second for the TD from that point with Rodgers taking the ball. at the goal line for the score. Wtih the offensive line opening big holes in the Trojan defense, Nebraska drove from its own 17 to the USC nine the first time the Iluskers had the ball. Tagge kept the Iluskers on the ground for most of the drive with Orduna picking up 51 yard3 in eight carries, but then fumbling yvilh Southern.
