"I suppose I thought I had achance at a half dozen," he grinned. Carstens returned it well, getting one good block. He thought he might have done a better job of following blockers than he did, however. Carstens compared the problems faced Saturday with those at Air Force since KU quarterback Bill Fenton was something of a scrambler. Offensively the Huskers moved the ball well and one of the reasons was the right side of the line.

Dennis Carlson is among those on that side. "They weren't stunting as much as I thought they would," Dennis said. "They have a much lighter line than some we've played and they've been doing a lot of stunting-1 thought they'd do a lot to get around us. "We found out we could just move them out with straight ahead bloacking. Once you know you can move 'em out it helps," Dennis said of the mental aspects involved.

The squad was quiet after the easy victory and the defense had its pride wounded by long march engineered by Kansas. "I though we gave 'em too many yards," defensive captain Mike Kennedy said. "I'm not real pleased with myself. "But I don't think they ever quit. And you've got to give them credit for that.

They hit pretty well and there were a lot of guys coming SclS Record Saturday's crowd of 910 that watched the Ne- braska-Kansas contest at Memorial Stadium seta Husker season record for both five and six-game schedules. Saturday's total brought the season mark to 268,005. The old five-game mark was 230,446 set last season. The previous six-game record was 226,036 set In 1963. End i iMII Mli lltllflfllliiiili tttlltiMjliMtil Ron Kirkland breaks through big For a halfback who figured pretty far down the 'line and had to battle his way back to earn a scholarship, Len Janik proved to be Ja solid hand Saturday as Ne-: 'Hsraska rolled to a 42-6 over Kansas.

Janik, a 5-11, 196-pound Sophomore from Chicago, became the sixth Corn-husker to start at defensive And and it proved a sound election as he figured in a half dozen big defensive Tplays. And it was a rough, day to be in there. Janik was the victim of the Kansas trap tplays in the first half when Jayhawks were having "some success moving the ball. -Z "I don't know the guy's name," Janik said. "But he hit me pretty good a few iimes." The defensive end corps depleted with injuries has a pleasant surprise Svith so many players coming through.

I've been playing it since the Wisconsin game," he said. "But this was the first one I've started. I was pretty nervous but I was "alright as soon as we started hitting." The switch hasn't both- ered Len and like most, all he cares about is playing. "It's hard to tell," he said when asked which place he'd rather play. "But I've been having the most success there so I probably would just as soon play end." I NU Coach Bob Dcvaney was complimentary to his refugee from the running back corps.

"Janik came up with a lot of fine plays," he said. He's a fighter. He's been a i linebacker and a defensive I back.
