ACTION PLENTIFUL IN LOGAN GAME Utah State upset Wyoming 20 to 6 in an interseetional upset Saturday at Romney field Nearly 10000 fans braved the elements to see the battle Jeff Hartman (12) of Wyoming director HEROES OF PAST DINED Red Jacoby Proposes New Teams for New Circuit Wyoming To bogies at his senior year at Idaho Baseball coach Wayne Anderson called the signing an example of "the professional plague The invasion of a college campus by baseball scouts is not new but this is the first time Idaho has been struck by the professional plague" Idaho had hoped for its best basketball team in a decade this season and coach Cipriano called White "the finest player I've had the opportunity to coach since I've been at Idaho" Baseball needs all the good-will it can muster in these days of other events offering stiff competition to the sport They are not getting this good-will buy signing athletes off college campuses PROPOSE TRUCE Rumors have the US government proposing a "truce" in the sports war between the national AAU and the NCAA that would allow the best American athletes to compete in the 1964 Olympic games in Tokyo One source insisted that the truce which would last until Nov 1 1964 has been agreed upon after a high-level meeting in Washington within the past month However Donald Hull executive of the AAU while admitting that the truce had been proposed said agreement had not been reached but indicated it still is under consideration At stake in the dispute between the AAU and NCAA is control of amateur sports competition in this country At this time the AAU is recognized by the various international federations which rule the various sports as the governing body of amateur athletics in the United States The AAU is the only body today now empowered to certify US athletes for international competition such as the Olympic games However the NCAA lashing out at the AAU's conduct of sports has recently moved to set up national federations in track basketball baseball and gymnastics The AAU has threatened to outlaw athletes who compete in non-AAU sanctioned meets while the NCAA has similarly threatened to outlaw athletes who compete in events not sanctioned by the FOOTBALL RESULTS But in recent years major league clubs have raided campuses signing many fini athletes at the heights of their college careers Professional football and basketball teams don't do this since they have rules requiring that players be drafted after their four years of college are over But baseball teams continue to lure the athletes away with their offers of big bonuses The latest squawk came just this week from Neil (Skip) Stahley athletic director of the University of Idaho Idaho officials learned this week that one of the school's top basketball players had been signed by the New York Yankees The player involved was Chuck White who averaged 18 points a game for- the Idaho Vandals basketball team last season and who will be ineligible this year SIGNED WITH YANKS Starley said White informed basketball coach Joe Cipriano that he signed a contract with the New York Yankees for an undisclosed bonus White of Kirkland Wash was being touted for possible All-America honors this year He also was a standout on the Idaho baseball team School athletic officials made no attempt to conceal their anger over the signing "Coach Cipriano has worked hard to build a well-rounded team for the coming year" Stahley said "and has been dealt a severe blow by the rules of professional baseball which permit signing of a student before graduation He criticized what he called the "impersonal approach taken by professional baseball toward young men of college age who should be permitted to complete their education without having dangled before them the glitter of a contract" White said he plans to complete By Warden Standard-Examiner Sports Editor LOGAN Four old-timers of 50 years ago were feted at a luncheon at the Union
