LET'S END "TIRED GOVERNMENT" and 30 YEARS OF COMPLACENCY of sucei "ousands deficits -rwl government HOorsJ Har space to Prof Louis Moench's "Select School" He came to Ogden from Brigham City in 1872 and became Weber County school superintendent in 1875 The Moench building on the lower campus of Weber College was named in his honor A brick vault was added to the building in 1883 tb house records In 1886 part of the basement was made into a jail Following the big fire of October 1895 the building was remodeled and was used for county Jpffices and courts for the rest of its existence in 1849 was the first bishop of the county the first Ogden postmaster and the first probate judge He held the first session of the eber County court in his home hi April 1852 Other sessions were held in private homes in schools ind the tithing office on Washington Boulevard just north of 24th On Oct 17 1855 the county bought a plot of ground on 24th between Washington and Adams A two-story adobe building only partly finished was included in the $850 paid to David Moore I Moore was another important pioneer He settled at Mount Fort in 1849 In 1850 Capt James Brown hired Moore to build a log bridge across the Ogden River at Washington and 19th Moore was paid $200 He was active in building I In 1940 the Weber Countv of and real estate for many years CO ERNEST Pc 4 IER CITY BALKED County officers tore down the By Bob Agee At 5 am Oct 10 1895 an early riser saw flames on 24th just east of Washington and he yelled Let the Ogden Standard of that date tell the story: "The inside of the courthouse is today in ruins At about 5 o'clock this morning the firemen at the station heard cries 'Fire! IFire! Fire!"
