and Friday the Weather Bureau said today Ogden is expected to have fair-skies today and -tonight with increasing clouds Friday and rising temperatures High today is expected to be in the mid-20s low tonight about 18 High Friday should be around 35 the Weather Bureau said Low in Ogden Wednesday night was 8 the high only 21 At Pine View Reservoir the mercury dropped to two below zero Wednesday 9 far $180000 The schools will use the system for an educational network Supt Smith outlined the proposal to the Board of Education and the board voted approval The whole deal is contingent on approval of the Federal Communications Commission 'and the granting of a telecasting permit to the school system Dr Smith said However Harold Hickman television coordinator for the schools said he had talked on the telephone to the FCC in Washington PC and officials there had given their unofficial approval of the change in ownership of the local station Arch Webb owner of the television station station and I was happy to sell it to the Ogden schools I believe the community will be better served by this arrangement" STARTS JAN 15 Under terms of the arrangement approved by the Board of Education KVOG will make available to the school system programming time on Jan 15 The schools will use educational films available from several sources Mr Hickman told the board When the FCC has given its approval of the transfer the schools will pay Mr Webb $7500 When the FCC finally issues a permit to the school system to operate Channel 9 the balance of the purchase price will be due but it will not be before July 1 beginning of the next fiscal year of the Ogden school system Until the Ogden schools can set up a staff and prepare to telecast the staff at KVOG will perform this work Supt Smith said The schools will pay KVOG $1000 a month for these facilities and services with the payments to apply on the total purchase price The Ogden schools will take title to the studios and facilities at 1538 Gibson and to the transmitting facilities at Little Mountain Supt Smith said -llt ftill if mitt- Briefly the contract provides that Ogden City can store up to 2500 acre-feet of water in Pine View Reservoir at $570 an acre-foot in exchange for down-river water from Coldwater Creek Warm Water Creek Wheeler Creek and the Ogden Bench Canal -i Water from all these city-owned sources flows into Ogden River below Pine View Reservoir This water will be used to irrigate farmlands in the valley as in the past but in the future Ogden City will be given the storage rights of 2500 acre-feet in the reservoir in exchange Jack Richards attorney for Ogden City who worked out the contract in conjunction with the other agencies said Ogden City will abandon its application for storage rights at -Magpie' tn the South Fork as part of the contract "Raw water purchased from Weber Basin costs about $22 an acre-foot" Mr Richards said "The amount of $570 an acre-foot is contract that assures the city 2500 acre-feet of inexpensive culinary water annually The contract has been drawn up after several conferences of officials of Ogden City the Ogden River Water Users Association the Weber Basin Water Conservancy District and the Bureau of Reclamation Directors of the Weber Basin and the association had special meetings scheduled today to approve the contract Following approval by the City Council the contract will be forwarded to the Bureau of Reclamation in Washington DC for final approval Indian Woman Knifed Police Hunt Assailant A 19-year-old Alaskan Indian woman was stabbed three times while walking along lower 25th Street late Wednesday and police today were looking for a Negro woman described by the victim as the knife-wielder Leona Rose Ellis of 227 25th was taken to Dee Hospital with knife wounds in her chest back and head She was later released Patrolman Smith saw her staggering along the street bleeding from a head cut she apparently received when she fell to the sidewalk during the attack The victim told officers she was walking along the street shortly after 11 pm and bumped into two Negro women She apologized she said but one On Board Since 1958 New President Elected by School Board Karl Macfarlane a member of the Ogden Board of Education since 1954 was named president of the board at its reorganization meeting Wednesday night He succeeds Gilbert Marriott Mr Macfarlane was elected to the Board of Education in 1954 and was re-elected to another four-year term in 1958 His term expires this year He was president in 1959 New vice president of the board is Nate Tanner At the organizational meeting the Board of Education appointed for two more years Asael Moulton as secretary of the board In another official action Wednesday night James Bischoff was sworn in as a member of the board from the fourth city ward He was named to the board Dec 14 to fill the vacancy caused when Arch Webb resigned Lee Candidate For Senator A petition signed by 138 Weber County residents nominating Salt Lake Mayor Bracken Lee as a Republican candidate for the US Senate was filed with the secretary of state Wednesday Mayor Lee said he is flattered but is not ready to mlike a statement about his future political plans i The petition was mailed to the secretary of state by Hugh O'Neil of 639 23rd "I am flattered that even 138 people would sign such a petition" Mayor Lee said "But I have no comment because don't know yet what I am going to dp" Lee said he knew nothing of the petition until contacted by newsmen A The Salt
