ariQCIAL DISPATCH TO THB BNQ.CTBBB. Chicago, September IS. The fall trot ting meeting of the Chicago Jockey and Trotting Club began to-day, nnder unfavorable auspices as to weather, a "terrlmc gale sweep ing across the open prairie In which the track fs situated, and greatly hindering the horsea fer fully ono-half the distance In every heat. The attendance was not large, a crowd of about two thousand being present. The 2:10 race, parse of UjXJO, was an easy victory for William who won in three straight heats, in a field of nine, in 2 2:31 and and 231 the Barnes and positions of the other horses In the race being as follows: Cloud, Windsor, Prances, Headlight, Black Prince.

and Marshall Bay. a The 2 25 race was expected to be a walk over for the Tennessee stallion, McCnrdy's Humble-toulan, as he was known to be very fast and of a good staying family, bat the Chicago stallion, Monroe Chief, was quite liberally supported in the pools, and he vindicated the confidence of his friends by winning the third, fourth and fifth heats of a race which was bitterly fought from first to last. A serious accident occurred in the first heat. In the draw for positions Warrior got the pole, Monroe Chief second, Ada-Paul third. Champion Girl fourth, McCurdy's Hanibie-toniau fifth, and Billy Yeazel on the outside.

When the word had lieen given, and Just before the first turn bad been reached, Ada Paul went Into the air, and the spectators were horrified to see her swerve violently to the left, smashing into Monroe Chiefs sulky, which was hurled airainnt Warrior, and there was heard a cracking and twiting.of sulky-timber that made people turn tlicir heads away as the three horses and drivers went down in a confused and struggling heap. Fortunately, the sulkies Were so firmly interlaced that none of the horses could get clear of the wreck, and a fearful runaway accident was thus prevented. As It turned out, neither the drivers uor horses were at all injured, though all three sulkies were total wrecks. The other three horses were nnlm-peded by the smash-up, and Ham-bletouiun took the hunt handily in 2:34. It being explained satisfactorily that the swerving of Ada Paul was caused by the breaking of a buckle on the left-hand rein, the three distanced horses were allowed to start again.

The Hainbletoniau stallion took the second heat in after a sharp struggle with Monroe Chief, but the latter proved to lie the best stayer and eaptnred the next three heals and race in 2pJ, Champion Girt winning third ami Billy Yeazel fourth money.
