Entertainment '11 MONDAY, APRIL 10. 1995 umorsMbout broadcast affiliate in Lincoln unfounded In February I wrote a'column about the plans of Citadel communications to move Albion, to the Capital City as a full-service, ABC I rhapsodized, rather freely about what the move might mean for Lincoln viewers. I saw the new broadcast competition as a definite plus. But broadcasting, like many an industry, often thrives on rumors rumors about people, companies and intentions. And I heard some interesting scuttlebutt in the past Week that tempered my enthusiasm for the new station.

An industry source (who. declined to be identified) claimed the following: The new station would not be a' stand-alone station, but run as a satellite of KCAU in Sioux City. The new station would not have a full-service news department, but merely have a two- or three-person i bureau, i 'r Citadel is too tight with a dollar to make the investment necessary to compete with KOLNKGIN. Pulitzer Broadcasting (owner of ABC affiliate KETV in Omaha) is so livid over a second ABC station in its coverage area that it likely will sue both ABC and the FCC over the transfer. This could lead to wholesale sta- tion affiliation changes across the ''market.

All of the above assertions are baseless, according to a Citadel Ray, Cole, Citadel executive vice-, president, assured me on the record for both facilities and programming, demonstrate that it has come to the ballpark to play and has every reason, to do the same in Lincoln. Pulitzer, for its part, pooh-poohed the proposition that it was profoundly peeved. Pulitzer head Ken Elkins phoned me from St. Louis to say that, while his company was not thrilled at ABC's decision to approve a Lincoln affiliate, there was nothing it could or would try to do about it. Instead, he said, KETV was busy upgrading its coverage of western Iowa and extending the "NewsWatch 7 Live Link" to Ames.

He also said that KETV had signed a new, 10-year affiliate contract with ABC. So much for rumor. The FCC has yet to give the final green light for the new station, but Cole hopes to get an update while at next week's National Association of Broadcasters meeting in Washington. Stay tuned. JOE A'TIMMO STRIKE AGAIN DEPARTMENT: Those irrepressible imps at KTGL-FM 92.9 had a field day with an April Fool's prank two weekends ago.

Listeners were treated to "remotes" from a fictitious Husker Appreciation Parade through down-t town Lincoln. The brief sketches, about a dozen in all, had Joe Timmo describing a bevy of parade day activities, as well as reviewing the pretended procession of marching bands, floats and balloons (including a hovering Bob Devaney). The vignettes gave ample opportunity for Joe Timmo to lampoon some local celebrities (Rose Blumkin's scooter was involved in a parade pile-up, for example). What's truly remarkable is that the boys were able to rope Mayor Mike Jo-hanns and Gov. Ben Nelson into the fun, getting them to do scripted interviews.

Their performances were a tad wooden, but funny and charming nonetheless. The whole business required a level of planning, writing and production that most radio stations wouldn't bother with. But the result was a creative, off-beat, multi-part radio 1 TOM JOHNSON Airwaves that the new station would be the real thing, with a staff of 40-45 full-time people (including a full-service news department), similar to the number employed at KCAU in Sioux City. He also said that Citadel's investment in the formerly state-owned WOI-TV in Des Moines, including major outlays drama. KTGL should release the complete parade on cassette.
