Last week a story appeared that the reason pre-Brownsville workouts in football gear had not started was because many of the assistants were on the road.

The only road they were on was the road to blindness. All were closeted In the film room thnmbs-upping or thumbs-downing prep footballers as they looked at more film footage than a movie editor. In fact for a couple of hours one day anyone with the least bit of trouble concentrating could have gone daffy. On one screen, no bigger than a home movie screen, two prep games were going side by side in postage stamp size images. At the same time Clete Fischer was in' the basketball coaches' movie room looking at another.

Alabama Done Nebraska does not sign within the Eight until next spring, the Southeastern Conference and Alabama signs in December. In fact, the hay is in the barn And, oddly enough, if you use the Alabama all-state teams as a judge, Alabama took a small beating from Auburn in recruiting. "A boy can earn all-state honors- and still not be a college prospect for a variety of reasons, including size, grades or background," says Don.
