Herman Groesbeck also gave a delightful evening, at her home on the Fast Hill. Friday. About thirty guests enjoyed the charming hospitalities. Mr. and Mrs.

Fred Eckstein will accompany Mr. Eckstein's young sisters abroad, and after placing them at school in Dresden will spend a year in travel. The wedding of Miss Drusy Moore, 4 of Catlettsburg. and Mr. Eugene Buffington, of Covington, is announced to take place next month.

Miss Moore is quite pOpular in Cincinnati society, having spent several winters here. Mrs. Edward Moore and son left unexpectedly for her home in Germantown, Tuesday evening, after a pleasant visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.

E. Wynne, of Avondale. Mr. Frank D. Goodhue returned to the city Saturday, after a season spent in Southern California.

Mr. Goodhue's bealth is greatly improved, and he has again turned his attention to the practice of law, Hon. John Shank and wife have returned from their wedding tour, and are domiciled at their residence, North Creseent avenue, Avondale. Mrs. Shank will be "at home" Thursdays in November.

Burkhardt, on Forest avenue, Avondale, open Monday night for a large and brilliant in honor of Mrs. Burkhardt's brother, Mr. Albert Erkenbrecher. was the thirtieth anniversary of his birthday, and a surprise had been so carefully arranged by relatives and intimate friends that he not the slightest this intimation of the pleasure until all were assembled in the luxuriously appointed library. At nine o'clock the last guest had arrived, and as quiet as mice they remained in the one room with the doors closed.

Mr. Erkenbrecher was in the 'Moorish' Room. on the third floor. where he had retired immediately after dinner. and Mr.

Burkhardt was with him, chatting of business affairs and smoking. At a signal frem the hostess the lights were turned down, and a servant sent to announce that Dr. George Ehrmann and Mr. Palmer had called. He suddenly called to mind that it was his birthdas, and remarked that the above-mamed gentleman had never forgotten the OCCAsion from his boyhood.

Hastening down to the library, where all was as quiet as church, he rolled back the massive doors, and sixty voices shouted. "Many happy returns of the day." and in the merry riot that followed Mr. Erkenbrecher almost forgot the two guests of honor, until Mr. Palmer stepped forth and remind him with a stout-headed cane of beautiful workmanship.
