Mrs. James Saturday of San Francisco gives us her dessert answer. She uses the new instant puddings that require no cooking. Her Trifle Bomb is an exalted business. Her coffee sherbet is a jiffy prize winner. Coffee Serbet (Makes 4 to 5 servings) One cup cold milk, 1 cup water, 1 package homogenized instant vanilla pudding, 2 teaspoons instant coffee. Pour milk and water into a deep mixing bowl. Add pudding and instant coffee. Beat until well mixed, about 1 minute. Four into refrigerator tray. Freeze until firm, about 2 hours, in refrigerator freezing compartment with control set for fast I reeling, or in freezer. Trifle Bomb (Make* t to II servings) One package ladyfingers (about 9), 2 egg whites, y* cup sugar, 2 cups light cream, 2 cups cold milk, 1 package homogenized instant chocolate pudding, 1 package homogenized instant coconut cream pudding, 3 drops oil of peppermint (optional). Split ladyfingers and stand them on .end, cut side to the center, aroun edge of 7-inch springform pan. Place a No. 2y 2 can with both ends removed in the center of the spring-form p*&. Beat egg whites until 'foamy. Add sugar gradually and beat until soft peaks form. Pour 1 cup of the light cream and 1 cup of the cold milk into a deep mixing bowl. Add chocolate pudding and beat until well mixed, about Iminute. Fold pudding into beaten egg whites. Pour into spring-form pan around outside. Pour remaining 1 c up cream and 1 cup cold milk into a deep mixing bowl. Add coconut cream pudding and oil of peppermint/ Beat until well-mixed, about 1 minute. Pour into can in center of spring-form pan. Lift out can. Freeze until firm, about 2^4 to 3 hours, in freezing compartment of Chinese Sauce Betters Beef Evtn Plain-Steak Addicts Will Like It COMPANY DINNER Even plain-steak addicts will like this steak sauce. It brings out good beef flavor instead of disguising it. BROILED STEAK WITH CHINESE SAUCE Ingredients: 4 to 5 pounds sirloin steak, 3 tablespoons butter, 1 teaspoon salt, & teaspoon ground ginger, 1 teaspoon soy sauce, 3 table- refrigerator with control set for fast freezing, or in freezer. If desired, garnish with whipped cream pressed through a pastry cloth. •poow «tnitted tenon juiot, 1 garlic (crushed). Method: Melt butto- and §tir in salt, ginger, soy sauce, lemon juice and garlic. Start broiling steak; •when it has broiled to one-half of the desired doneness on first side brush well with, sauce. Broil second side to desired doneness, brushing well with sauce in the middle of this broiling period. Heat remaining sauce and serve over thinly sliced steak. Makes 1/3 to ^ cup sauce—ample for 6 servings of steak. Ingredients: 1 pound ground chuck beef, 6 hamburger buns, 6 slices Cheddar cheese, salt and pepper, onion rings and gherkins. Method: Shap* b**f tato 0 pttttai so they will fit bum; cook to da- sired donenese under broiler or in skillet on top of range. Meanwhile split buns and arrange, iplit side up, on cookie sheet. Spread bun halves with butter; put a slice of cheese on each of 6 halves. Toast under broiler until cheese begins to melt. Put cooked hamburgers on other bun halves; top with onion rings and gherkins. Serve at once.
