PtgetC I I Sanger Does It Again SANGER For Sanger, the season has been like night and day. The lost their first five games by big margins, both on the Scoreboard and on the field. But since District 14-A action has started, the Indians have been unbeatable and it stayed (hat way Friday night as Sanger took Potlsboro, 21-16. Victor Kirby got things started for Sanger, with his two-yard dive for a touchdown in the first period. Danny McCuistion converted the PAT kick and Sanger led, 7-0.

Pottsboro rallied to tie the score at seven eariy in the second period on Lester Harriett's 28-yard run and Randy Leaton's kick. Greg Johnson put the Indians back in front with a 65-yard strike, to give Sanger a 13-7 halftime lead. The Indians' two-point try failed. Pottsboro went to its passing game in the second half and almost sent the Indians down for the count before Sanger pulled off the pass-and-lateral play Roger Woods scored Pottsboro's only TD of the second half on a 45-yard pass from quarterback Barnett, were saddled with a tie, 13-13, when the PAT kick missed. It didn't stay that way Song, however, as Pottsboro's Leaton kicked a 45- yard field goal to give the Cardinals a lead.

But the last strike belonged to Sanger. Quarterback Ken Odom fired a bullet to Mark Sons, who had ran a hook pattern, and then Sons lateraled to Johnson, who had maneuvered out of the backfield and along the sidelines, for a 21-yard touchdown. Neither team was able to score in the first quarter, as the defenses of both teams were outstanding.

But in the second period, the Jackrabbits finally managed a score on Campbell's first touchdown run of the game from three yards out to give Bowie a 7-0 halftime lead. In the third period, the Jackrabbits got untracked, scoring on their first possession of the second half. Campbell again took it in. on a one yard run with 6:05 remaining in the-quarter. The Texans, punting from their own 27-yard line, fumbled the snap and Bowie recovered on the 26.

Three plays later, fullback Steve Hanson went in for the touchdown on a nine-yard run to put the Jackrabbits ahead 20-0. With only 22 seconds left in the quarter, Bowie scored again on a Campbell run of seven yards. In the fourth quarter, Bowie took the ball at its own 20-yard line and moved the distance in nine plays with Campbell getting his final touchdown of the game on a five-yard run with 6:41 on the clock. Reserve halfback Larry Read put the Jackrabbits 1 final points on the board with 51 seconds to go in the game. Kevin Browning intercepted a Northwest pass at the Bowie 41, and two plays later Head broke open around right end for 49 yards and the touchdown to give Bowie the 39-0.

Era Stings Eagles, 24-6 Kl.M I A Contributing Writer ERA Quarterback Jackie Bewley. running for uvo touchdowns and passing for a fhird, led the Era Hornets to a 24-6 District 7-B victory over the Valley View Eagles. Bewley scored his first touchdown of the game with less than two minutes gone in the first period, on a 25-yard run. Minutes later in the same quarter, Bewley scored a second time on a 36-yard run to put the Hornets in front 12-0. Capitalizing on two key Hornet penalties, the EagJes came up with their only score of the game in the second quarter.

Running hack Mark Kuntz went in from one yard out making the halftime score 12-6. Third quarter action was light, until Bewley passed 13 yards to split end Troy Davis in the end zone. The Hornets were unable to complete the conversion try for the third time, making the score 18-6. The Hornets got their final score of the game early in the fourth quarter on a four- yard run by running back- John Erwin, to give Era the 24- win. The Hornets are undefeated, with a record of 80.

Celina Takes Little Elm, 8-B Leadershio Hy BRUCE HOWARD Contributing Writer CELINA After building an easy 26-0 lead, the Celina Bobcats withstood a second half comeback by the Little Elm Lobos to capture their ninth straight win of the season. 32-21, Friday night. The victory gives Celina undisputed possession of first place in District Celina and Little Elm en- lered the game with unbeaten records in district play. Late in the third quarter the Bobcats were stopped on a fourth down attempt at the Lobo 28-yard line. Little Elm seemed to catch fire with the defensive effort as they marched 72 yards in only seven plays.

Tony Pryor scored from the two and i Elm was on the Scoreboard, trailing 26-7. On their next possession the Lobos journeyed 76 yards a more four plays. Dennis Carter, a bruising 220-pound tailback, scored from i9 yards oul and Eddie Dear added Ihe extra point bringing the score to 26-14 as ihe partisan Celina fans began lo worry just a bit. But Ihe Lobos fumbled at their own 12-yard line on iheir next possession and Donald Leeks recovered for the Bobcats. Three plays a quarterback Paul Haskel! scored from the eight-yard line to give the Bobcats a 32-14 lead and virtually sew up the victory.

It was all Celina in the.first half as the Bobcats scored on iheir second possession of the game. Haskell swept right, cut back up the middle and raced 58 yards for the touchdown. kick was wide fight and with 8:26 left in the first half the Bobcats led 6-fl. Early in the second quarter the Bobcats started a drive at the Lobo 27-yard line as a result of a 17-yard punt by Little Elm punter Wayne Connors. With somegreat individual i by Scot Tingle, Handy Nelson and Haskell, the Bobcats covered the 27 yards in five plays.

Fullback Nelson got the TD from 10 yards out. Haskell converted the extra point and Celina led 13-0 with 5:41 loft in the second quarter. Little Elm. with the help of a five-yard penalty against Celina, secured their initial first down with 3:54 left in Ihe first half. But on the next play Dear fumbled and Tingle recovered for the Bobcats at the Lobo 38-yard line.

Haskel.l, who had a tremendous night rolling left and right while piling up 185 yards rushing, moved the Bobcats, to the 28 with a 10- yard scamper. Four plays later Nelson scored from the ine yard line giving Celina a lfl-0 lead al halftime. The lead continued to mount for the Bobcats as the second half got underway. Little Elm was forced to punt and once again Connors had to punt into a strong south wind. The result was a 16- yard punt to the Lobo 47-yard line.

With fourth and eight on ihe Lobo 45, the Bobcats were forced to punt. However, Celina got the ball righl back as punter Tingle was roughed by one of the Lobos. Haskell, again on a scampered 21 yards to the nine-yard line. Tingle, who had 87 yards on a bum leg. scored on the next play from the nine.

Haskell kicked the extra point and ihe Bobcats had a commanding 26-0 lead with 8:4 left in the third quarter. After fighting back to only a 32-14 deficit, the Lobos i to claw and scratch. Quarterback Kevin Howard hit Pryor with a 12- yard scoring toss with only three seconds left in the game. Dear added the extra poini in make the filial score, 32-21. The Pirates started the scoring on their first possession of the game, with a five-yard run by senior quarterback Kent Durden.
