CORPUS CHRISTI CALLER Wed Oct 7 1978 ISA 1 1 eamsters fund trustees resign National Briefs FntnCaHsrWfcmwtcM NEW YORK The Teamsters major pension fund which has been charged with improper activities for 20 years and has been under investigation by the federal government announced Tuesday the resignation of 11 trustees as part of major of its board of trustees The resignations coupled with one last month mean that 12 of the 16 trustees have left under pressure of threatened government action against them The resignations are the result of the largest federal push against the union since James Hoffa former Teamster president was sent to prison nearly a decade ago Still undecided is which 11 trustees will go and which four will remain The pension fund said that the names of the new board members would be announced Friday In the two weeks since the trustees decided on the mass resignation fierce infighting has reportedly occurred within the pension fund over who would resign and the matter still has not been settled Voice of America told to conform WASHINGTON The director of the United States Information Agency has ruled that Voice of America correspondents "must conform to US government policies" and that he does not see this as "in any way contravening the law referred to as VOA's charter nor do I see it as any form of censorship" USIA Director James Keogh's action is one of the death penalty for certain crimes is unconstitutional because it constitutes cruel and unusual punishment Justice Peter McQuillan said the concept of mandatory sentences for criminals has at least temporarily removing all pending death sentences in New York Lockheed aeeka better image NEW YORK Lockheed Aircraft Corp its reputation tarnished by revelations of international payoffs has would vote Usually this decision was not based on the candidate's sthnd on the issues but on my impression of his appearance This year would be different I thought I watched both conventions listened to the plat forms watched the debates and read every-thing I could about both candidates After 'j hearing President Ford and Gov Carter dur-' ing the last few months I have been reminded of the following saying: "I know you believe you understand what you think 1 said but I am not sure you realize that what you heard ia not what I 'So this year I will probably go to the polls and again at the last minute make up my nnfind based on the appearance And there is not much to go on there either COCHRUM JR a Donors thanked Editor The Caller: 'Ve-atCoastal Bend Chapter of the Ameri- can generally excellent article on Sep Dole's visit to Corpus Christi (The Caller Oct 20) There is one minor point in the article however which displays a definite 1 lack of Journalistic accuracy The article states in part: (Sen Dole) was driven 1 downtown for a rally at Exposition Hall where he was greeted by a group of game but chilled King High Rangerettes" Apparently Mr geography or his spelling is a little uncertain Although most Texans cannot help admiring the preci- siori performances of the famous Kilgore College Rangerettes from East Texas we Mustangs owe our first allegiance to our very own King High Reyalettes Try again Peter LAURIE MITCHELL (Perhaps the skill of the Royalettes impressed our reporter We apologize for the er-! ror The Editor) i- i i Insulted pditor The Caller: Joe Wright (Refugio) who was appalled and deeply disturbed about the King High School I debaters insulted his own IQ by unfair insults tothose young people They may not have reflected his opinions but do give them credit for showing their interest We've recently moved bact to this South Texas area We are in the 1 over group and still consider ourselves young people The lack of interest in young people in this area is appalling He said it "when they leave Nueces County because that is exactly what they do Hooray for the King High debaters Their time could have been spent throwing rocks at your house That would be appalling Joe Wright's lower IQ could be partly blamed on smothered education Taking young people to task with insults rather than faircriticism could smother their interest MRS NINA FREEMAN 1 288 novelty fashion jeans Slap out In gnat looking Jeans In variety of stytos and eoiora 488 short quilted robes Slay warm this winter with aasy cart qualtsd robes in an Caller: To my knowledge I have thought that a newspaper was run with efficiency integrity intelligence and with somewhat of a bit of ac-' curacy -1 However your reporters and editors cer-' tainly did not verify this in their coverage of Sen Dole's visit to Corpus Christi The article in the Caller on Oct 20 mentioned that the King High girls' drill team greeted Sen Dole upon his arrival at Exposition Hall and totally 'ignored the fact that the Flour Bluff High School Band had entertained the guests for more than an hour After speaking to the editor Of The Caller that morning assurance was given that this omission would be corrected at a later time Sure enough The Times was delivered and what docs the public read? quote for you if you happened to miss it yourself "The trapp-' ings of a political convention set the stage for the rally in Exposition Hall with West Oso High'School band music resounding from the walls" This was not only found offensive (to say the very least) to the members of the Flour Bluff band but also to the community which is trying to figure out just what part of Corpus Christi we belong to anyway It's too bad that the coordination of The Caller and Times is in such severe shambles One can't help but wonder what facts are accu- rately printed more so now than ever I would like to remind the guests at the rally for Sen Dole that they were entertained by thb Flour Bluff High School band and for those that'did not attend verification of the fact that the music was thoroughly enjoyed can be re-' ceived from any of the guests present andor Sen Dole Perhaps in the future The Caller and Times reporters will be able to get their stories at least-accurate MR MRS JOHN NATALE (I know you must have talked to someone here at The Caller but it wasn't me We do apologize for inadvertently leaving out the reference to the Flour Bluff band It certainly wasn't intentional As for the error in The Times it was corrected and an apology was made From what 1 hear your band performed excellently and deserves praise The Editor) Top" it Oft with casual smocks in a variety ol styles twin full size sheets tUPtlt SALE sf no Inn mwIM In nlonl partact
