Watson died Monday while trying to land on the Franklin D. Roosevelt. Also in the Phantom jet fighter was Lt. Richard Glen Been of Virginia Beach. Va.

Officers said the jet landed on the night deck and then crashed the sea. A Navy spokesman said the gear designed to stop the plane malfunctioned. Neither the plane nor the bodies of the fliers has been recovered- The air accident happened "somewhere off the coast of Florida," the Navy said. Ens.
