8:05 6:30 Plains architecture focus of program KUCV might be separated from college A study of the feasibility of separating public radio station KUCV from its parent Union College was authorized Friday by the station's Community Advisory Board. The board also recognized the resignation of Mel West, who was named manager of the fine arts FM station in September, but has decided his interests lie more in music and teaching than in station management, Union Vice President Lilya Wagner said. West remains on the college faculty, and has resumed his former post as minister of music at Westminster Presbyterian Church. A successor will not be named until the advisory board and the college complete studies of the future of the station, Wagner said. A separate committee of the Union board is considering the station's purpose, relationship to the college and fating funding, she said.

Trimmer budget Lincoln attorney Richard Endacott, who chairs the KUCV advisory board, said the two studies win proceed concurrently. While most advisory board members would prefer that KUCV retain its present relationship to the college, KUCV needs to expand its funding base, Endacott said. College officials will lay off 13 faculty members next fall and have said they must trim the budget because of ment declines and a drop in the number of high school graduates available from Seventh-day Adventist academies. The advisory board study will consider the advisability of transferring the station's license from the college to an independent community group, which would seek operating money for KUCV, Endacott said. About $60,000 of the classical music station's $230,000 budget is financed by the college.

The remainder comes from listeners and federal grants. The station is ineligible for some federal funding, however, because of its ties with Unioa More than $37,000 Recent fund-raising efforts netted more than $37,000, an increase of 16 percent over the previous year and KUCV now has about 1,500 patron members, station staff members said. Underwriting of some music and information programs by businesses also has increased, staff member Laurence West said, citing creation of the Carl Georgi Memorial Fund which will aid classical music programrning at KUCV. Advisory Board member Jack McBride, general manager of the Nebraska Educational Television Network, noted that the Legislature has given first-round approval to a bill to create a statewide public radio network primarily to serve areas outside of Lincoln and Omaha. No state funds are called for, McBride said, but may be sought in the future.

Initial financing would come from private and government sources, he said, but federal funding for all public broadcasting may diminish within the next two years and competition for federal and private funds may become more CBS News Tad Puttin' OnThaHlta 11:00 fji Movia2i: NIX Star Trek "The Black Windmill" (1974) Michael Caine SCNN Pinnacle DESPSPortsCSsmw pSHCountrydlpe and discussion to illustrate the many forms architecture on the Plains. 2 Edgewood II Shopping Center 423-3089 HEAR YOUR FAVORITES ON SUNDAY GOLD Talk radio 'Tinkling9 got a job TheSongiYouAskFor From The 50's Every Sunday from 12 Noon till 3pm Hooted by Ed Hall STEREO 95.3 FM By Jerry Buck LOS ANGELES (AP) Actors are cast in roles for many different reasons. A certain look, sex appeal, even talent. Allyce Beasley says she got her job in ABC's "Moonlighting" because of a tinkling charm bracelet She's only half -kidding about the effect of the bracelet on those at the audition. "It's my good-luck charm," she said. "It's got thousands of little charms.

They tinkle and it makes people giggle." Which, of course, is the whole point behind "Moonlighting," the closest television has come to the screwbaU movie comedies of the 1930s. Miss Beasley is quite adept at provoking giggles as the loopy Miss Dipesto. CybUl Shepherd and Bruce Willis star in this detective comedy. She's a former high-priced model stripped clean by her manager and hanging on to the only asset she has left, a struggling detective agency. He's the head detective, a man with moxie and grandiose ideas that stretch his relationship with Miss Shepherd to the limit "When I got the call to come in to audition I dont think they knew exactly what they wanted," she said.

"Miss Dipesto didn't have much to do in the pilot When I went to costuming they told me they were expecting an older woman. Now Glenn (creator-producer Glenn Caron) says no, he always wanted a woman in her 30s. he way Miss Dipesto dresses is JL more or less a takeoff on the way I dressed for the audition. I kept trying on things and they kept saying no. Then Glenn remembered when I was wearing layers of clothes.

That's how we coined the concept of Miss Dipesto's never getting dressed just once. She keeps adding layers because she's timid or whatever." She said she sees Miss Dipesto as naive. "It's a way of looking at the world," she said. "I used to be like that, but Hollywood cured that" Miss Beasley was kept waiting for several months while the producers sought a male lead for "Moonlighting." (The pilot script was written with Miss Shepherd in mind.) television She hosts a syndicated talk program, a la "Donahue," seen locally on KETV, Channel 7, while he has an nightly hour of talk on the Cable News Network called "Larry King Live." King, who began his national radio talk show in 1978 after years as a local radio personality in Miami and is still the national ratings leader by a large margin, has turned himself into a virtual industry with a six-figure income writing columns for USA Today and the Sporting News. "Talknet" financial expert Bruce Williams is slated for a talk in Lincoln later this spring.

Talk radio is beginning to infiltrate daily programming in Lincoln. Further expansion of talk radio is possible for Lincoln. How long win talk radio last? WaMn said he thinks it will be successful for AM stations for the foreseeable future. When more AM stereo receivers are in the marketplace, he said, stations no longer wUl be bound by technological restrictions and can go head to head with their FM competitors. Then, programming wUl be based on target audiences and some talk radio is likely to continue because of its popularity.

Beasing had a simpler answer. "It's working for AM radio and it's like the TV networks. Anything that works, we run it into the ground until it but listening to the radio," Beasing said. "During the day, the ratings may be bigger in terms of sheer numbers, but people are usually doing something else. At night, it tends to be the bedside radio and nothing else." Last spring's ratings for local stations show the popularity of talk radio among Lincoln nighttime listeners.

From 11 p.m. to midnight Monday through Friday, the most popular AM radio show with those 12 years and older was Talknet" on KFAB, which had 12 percent of the audience. Larry King, then on KFOR, had 8.5 percent After midnight, those shares increased to 14.4 percent for "Talknet" and 13.3 percent for King. Those ratings were still below the 20 percent-plus mark of KFRX-FM, a contemporay hit radio station, and also trailed KFMQ-FM, which has a more traditional rock format A closer look at the demographics after midnight shows an interesting split in the audience. Among men 18 and older, King draws a solid 25.7 percent, the most of any program on the air at that time, but he only draws 7.1 percent of the women.

Talknet's" Sally Jesse Raphael, on the other hand, has 26.2 percent of the women 18 and older listening to her and only 5.7 percent of the men. Both King and Raphael have used their nighttime popularity to expand into. i the' 10 AM Relax before or after the Mr ClaSS 4m C2, toon (ii an, 2 PM 1 Class Ct Tournament and visit Jan's Lee's Restaurant.
