Centralii City Commission, Tuesday, 2p.m., city hall. A Chehalis police officer put his imagination to good use Saturday morning and developed leads on two recent Chehalis burglaries in the process. The case resulted in the detention of five persons in connection with the incidents.

Thursday night the Chehalis Amusement Center was burglarized. Taken were candy, sandwiches, and the entire cash register--which was empty. A week earlier, food and cigarettes were taken from Dairy Dan's Drive-In in Chehalis. Two officers on patrol early Saturday morning figured they had a hungry burglar in their city and began searching empty buildings to see il he was sheltered there. The search was fruitless, but at 7:15 a.m.

they passed two youths walking home, according to one of the policemen. One of them flagged down the officers. The youth, a 12-year-old Chehalis boy, told one officer (who asked not to be identified) that he had seen him investigating the burglary of the Am usment Center. The officers offered to drive the pair home and discuss the case enroute. The pried-opea cash register had beea found close to where one of the boys was living.

The youth described fictitious burglars to the officers, meanwhile trying to "pump them" for information police said. 'At least one of the officers was suspicious. Because of that, he told the boy there was something odd about the case. The officer said the cash register had never been found, and there were five JlOObOls taped to the bottom of the cash drawer. For effect, he told the youth he believed there were really only two bills there.

The officers then dropped off the boys, parked their patrol car. and walked back to a place where they could stake out the bushes where the cash register bad been found. Within 20 minutes one of the boys allegedly walked out of the house and peered into the brush. He sta red direc tly at the spot where the cash register had been dumped, according to officers. The youth was immediately apprehended.

The 20-yearold was ia custody Monday, pending possible filing of burglary charges. All the youths were referred to juvenile authori ties.
