Smith hit a respectable 11 of 15 passes for 146 yards, but was inter-, cepted by Mike Day, Jim Kornman, Mike McCoIly and Mike Freeland. "We just couldn't move the ball on the ground," said a dismayed and disgusted North coach Bryon Weaver. "I thought we'd get back in the ball game at the start of the second half with our passing, but then we fumbled (on the 1-yard line).

Lawrence has a good bunch of kids." Smith had moved the Panthers 50 yards on three passes before Law-ence's Steve Kehlenbrink recovered a loose ball. The 31-0 beating was the worst ever given to North Central by Lawrence and only the second time the Bears had shutout the Panthers. They did it first in 62, 7-0. "I can't believe it," said Bishop of the lopsided score. Dickerson dominated the contest offensively with his elusive running and scoring, not to mention his singing in the lockerroom after the game.

The junior halfback" tallied three touchdowns, in the first, second and fourth quarters and ground out 106 yards on 13 carries. Running mate Matt Phillips came next with 63 yards on 14 totes. Dickerson's 21-yard jaunt with 5:25 left in the first quarter was the first -score of the game. He followed with spectacular 81- and 33-yard TD pass plays from sophomore quarterback Steve Risley. "I think we can go all the way," said Dickerson of his team's chances for a state title.

"Somebody's going to have to beat Washington, though. And we gotta beat Pike next week." Washington is one of Lawrence's prime competitors from this area for a berth in the season-ending state playoffs in November. The Bears totaled 260 yards on the ground and 148 in the air. Risley hit 4 of 11 for 139 yards. Sophomore Tim Petty scored the Bears' third TD on a 9-yard jaunt around left end with 3:16 remaining in the third quarter.

Nick Cox, filling in for Risley, scored the last TD with a 1-yard keep with 4:57 remaining in the contest. "I'd say we'd have to be one of the four best teams in the area that's Washington, Chatard, Carmel and us," said Bishop, whose looking to top two straight 8-2 seasons. "I've had one official tell me that Richmond might be better but not as colorful as we are. "I think we put on a good show. Our football is interesting to watch exciting.

I like to go to the outside. Even when you don't get anywhere, it looks good." AUTO RACING COLLEGE FOOTBALL 'Central, 31-ff, it meant a stiffer chal-fl Ienge. Pike, 3 0, would be visiting 3 0, next Friday night. "We "gotta beat Pike," stressed J. Bishop, the masterful football coach i at Lawrence.

"This was our second shutout in a row, but our defense's "biggest test will come against Pike. 'That'll be the true test. That'll be Xi.TBE game next week." vtt Pike had better be well-prepared 1 lor a Bear-ish defense led by senior Gary Sweeney not to mention a guy they call "Fly" Ty Dickerson "on offense. Sweeney and Dickerson were easily i the standouts in last night's white-washing of the visiting Panthers before i'i crowd of 4,000. Sweeney and linebacker Chris White shared the tackle honors, each with solo tackles and two assists.

The Bear defense sacked North quarter- back Scott Smith nine times and held the Panthers to minus 25 yards on the ground. i 5 TANK MMMAUA 1 ,) i i Jane Blalock Sandra Haynia SANDRA SPUZICH Sue Roberts Lenora Beserra Christ! There will be a meeting of Midwest Football League officials at Toledo, Ohio, this weekend to discuss the championship game location and other pertinent details. Indy will face Flint in the 1974 Midwest Mini -Super Bowl game.

CYO Football The Indy Caps would like nothing better than to finish off their regular Midwest Football League regular season with a victory. They get that chance to-night at CYO Field (8 o'clock) when the Caps meet the Lansing, All-Stars in their last home appearance of the season. The Caps most prized victory of the year so far came last weekend at the expense of the previously unbeaten Flint, Sabres by a score of 24-21. The Sabres had beaten the Caps, 17-0, earlier in a game at Flint. Flint led the Caps, 21-14, after three periods, but Indy rallied for 10 points in the Looei Russell.

7 Gary Wallace, 32-6. Miller, already the winner of six tourneys and more than $256,000 this season, had a 136 total after two rounds of the world open. That was six under' par and one in front of veteran Frank Beard, who has been in a deep, two-year slump. Beard had a 70 for 137. Miller's round was another in his series of extremely low scores and came just a short time after he and former British Open champion Tom Weiskopf had been assessed $1,000 fines by Tournament Players Division (TPD) commissioner Deane Beman.

The fines are among the heaviest in the history of the sport. They were assessed some time ago, but were first made public yesterday. Beman confirmed the fines. The disciplinary action came after both Miller and Weiskopf made prccipitious withdrawals from majffr tournaments. ROCK FANS-ROCK CONCERT ONLY $5.00 SEPT.
