New Wires Scott Campbell completed a fourth-down, 7-yard touchdown pass to Steve Bryant with 19 seconds left in the game, then hit Bryant with a 2-point conversion pass to give Purdue a 15-14 upset victory over No. 11 Notre Dame Saturday at West Lafayette. The victory gave Purdile a 2-1 overall record and dropped Notre Dame season and new coach Jerry Faust's career record to 1-2. The winning drive started immediately after Notre Dame tailback Phil Carter scored on a 30-yard ran to give the Irish a 14-7 lead.

Purdue got the ball on its own'20 and moved downfield in 12 playa The key play was a 41-yard pass from Campbell to Bryant that put the ball on the Notre Dame 1 with 39 seconds to go. Michigan 21, Navy 16 The sixth-rated Wolverines rolled up a 21-6 lead on Nay early in the third quarter then had to hold on for dear -life to pull out a 21-16 victory over the -scrappy Midshipmen. "We're not a hungry football team," said Michigan coach Bo Schembechler "We should have put them away before they got started. at Notre Dame play. They were the better team. Sophomore quarterback jitters back there. Well get that straightened out I dont know why we had so many turnovers out there. It about evened up, didnt it? The only one I thought was a little uneven was the one on the punt That got them back in the ball On Penn State passing game: "We're not throwing well enough sometimes.

We're running well We've got a guy with the hot hand, you're not looking for the pass, you're looking for the run. I think we had the pass when we had to have it. Before the half we had to make the drive. We hit a couple. Todd put two or three right in a row on the money.

I think hell be able to do that when he has to. Well have to do that Surely they'll be some teams we won't be able to run as well against, and well have to pass. I hope that will come." On Penn State's TD before the half: "That's not Nebraska football to let you go down the field that easy. Then we fumbled the punt that got them right back in it. I thought the start of the second half we were really starting to dominate the line of scrimmage the first series.

We would have had nice field position, wind at our back, and boom, I thought we could take it in. Then, maybe it wouldn't have been such a tough ball game. You never know." On Warner: "I think he's a great back, but he's got a pretty good offensive line. Those kids, that's a good offensive line. Those two guards are great players.

There as good as anybody else. I think he's (Warner) a good football player." On Nebraska's fake punt: "We expected that. We kept the defense in there. We just fell asleep on that one." Comparing Nebraska to last year: "I don't think it would be fair to compare those. I don't like to compare mine, so I don't want to compare anyone elses.

We obviously are a much better football team at this stage that we were when we came out here two years ago. And we were better at quarterback this trip. We're a betterfootball team. They may be a lot better than they were last year, I don't know. They sure looked awfully good against Florida State.

I think we're pretty good, so I think they played tough." Linebacker Chet Parlavecchio On turnovers: "Whenever you get a hard-hitting game like that they'll be turnovers. There will be times you think you're moving the ball down the field and boom, all of a sudden th stick comes, the guy gives up the ball and the game turns around. I think in the first half the game must have turned around nine times. There were times I was sitting there feeling good, and there were times I was thinking, Oh, oh. It must have turned around a million times.

Kicker Brian Franco On kicking Ave Held goals and two extra points: "I figured they'd be using me, but not that much. I thought that against a team like Nebraska, we'd stall a couple of times and I'd be used. The toughest one was the first (29 yards against the wind), because I was so nervous. It was a line drive, but it made it through and the rest were just like practice. The last one hooked a little bit but the wind straightened it out and it went right through.

(Franco has never missed a field goal or extra point in college. He has 14-14 PATS and 8-8 field goals). "The snaps were perfect and my holder Terry (Rakowsky) has great hands, so it wasn't that hard to kick." On becoming Penn State's main kicker: "This is my only year to kick, really, so I was pumped up to get in there. I spent my years as understudy to Matt Bahr and Herb Menhardt the two years, and I knew I'd get my chance and today I got it." On the wind at Memorial Stadium: "With the wind or against it, I didn't find any real problems during warmups or the game." Quarterback Todd Blackledge About fumbling on the opening play of the game: "I was nervous all last night and I was even more nervous to start the game. Believe it or not, the fumble kind of loosened me up.

Coach Paterno told me if I kept my confidence I'd be able to move the team and make things happen, even if I got off to a slow start." On Nebraska's defense: "We had two full weeks to prepare for Nebraska and that helped, because we were ready for just about everything they had. On the game: "We came out a small scared team, but we knew we were supposed to be good and we wanted to prove it. They still hit hard and we may not face a tougher team this year." Defensive back Giuseppe Harris On his interception last in the fourth quarter: "I was actually guarding against a run by Roger Craig, and the tight end just came into my area. The ball was a little short and I stepped in front to take it." On Penn State's pass defense: "Nebraska is a good passing team, but I think we played a pretty good man-toman defense and kept them from getting all but one big pass, and that was on a free saftey blitz." Coach Joe Paterno On turnovers: "We both got a little sloppy, but some of that was tough hitting. That was a tough football game out there, really tough.

Their kids run so hard. We were reckless with it. I was worried about catching of kicks going into the ball game. We had the mental Pass Receiving No. Yds.

Janice Ohrt finished second individually with a 19:08 time, Nebraska had 26 points, Judge's ruling favors Redwine OMAHA (UPI) Douglas County District Judge James Buckley has granted former Nebraska running back Jar-vis Redwine's request to prevent a commercial enterprise from using his name or image for profit. Redwine, now a running back for the Minnesota Vikings, sought the injunction against By Goly Productions of Omaha for what he considered the exploitation of amateur athletes. Buckley signed the order Friday. By Goly in May was sued lor $100,000 by Redwine, who said the company last season started to sell posters throughout Nebraska depicting Redwine carrying the ball.

Redwine said the company, owned by Vernon L. Goff of Omaha, never asked his permission, which bothered him. He said he thought he should at least get a percentage of the profits to donate to charity. National Collegiate Athletic Association rules bar amateur athletes from earning income from endorsements or other uses of their names or images for profit. David A.

Jacobson, Red-wine's attorney, said the athlete never appeared before the judge because his testimony was unnecessary. Jacobson said the parties privately settled out of court on monetary damages, but he declined to reveal how much Redwine got. "That wasn't important to him anyway," Jacobson said. "He personally wanted to assert his legal rights. He's very pleased with the result because he thinks the case will have some impact on the rights of amateur athletes to protect the exploitation of Iheir names and images." WSL Reg.
