TF ATTENDANCE holds up on their final home stand, starting Monday night, the Indianapolis Indians tihave a chance to show a small profit for the 1963 o4L Sears Sale Price It could go either way," said general manager Max Schumacher," but whichever way it is, it should be, slight. Right now indications point to the break-even level. We definitely need strong support in the last two weeks to finish in the black. "One bjg loss we will have to overcome is in our television rights," added Schumacher.

Koelling but this year we will get only $9,000 because of the inability to sell weekday games. With two stations last year, had three televised games a week. This year we have only one station and one day a week (Sunday)." The Indians operated at a loss of $2,900 last year, 'ncluding concession income.

A small profit had been realized at the end of 11 months, but when all bills were paid in December, the ledger turned up red. Last year's receipts included a $25,000 indemnity payment from the majors for the Minneapolis-St. Paul erritory. Another such payment was made this year, but that is the last, the full amount now having been paid. The last profit-making year was 1962 when the exchequer showed a balance of $21,000.

In 1961 the profit was $31,000 and in 1959 it was $68,000. The' 1960 season was a loser. The Tribe management always had derived some revenue from concessions but it was on a "cut" basis until 1962 when the management took over its own operation. Attendance at Victory Field this year is 'about 8,000 ahead of last year on a basis of 13 remaining dates. The total this year is 113,251 as against with 13 dates left last year.

The 1963 total paid was 142,427, including the pennant-playoff game. In order to surpass last year's figure, the Indians will need an average draw of 2,300 per game on their final -home stand. The Tribe management encountered unexpected financial burdens this year in a series of injuries to players and frequent changes in personnel. "Most of the cost of medical attention will be I covered by our insurance," said Schumacher. "But the financial burden came in carrying extra players while the injured were on the disabled list, and in transporting the injured to and from Indianapolis.

We've had 40 different players this season, and that I also boosted the transportation costs." Several big nights are scheduled for the season-; end home stand, including a fireworks display be-; tween games of the Labor Day double-header with Oklahoma City. The Tribe management reports a brisk advance sale for this event and is hoping to top the July 4 turnout of 8,754. New displays, with emphasis on ground pieces, will feature the fireworks.
