Clark then led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a homer to left-center field to give the Rockies A 54 lcsda ASTROS 4, PIRATES 2: Greg Swindell allowed three hits in 8V innings, and the Astros, shut down for seven innings by Dave Otto, worked over reliever Denny Neagle for three runs in the eighth at Pittsburgh.

PHILLIES 2, DODGERS 0: Curt Schilling pitched a five-hitter for his second shutout of the season, and Dave Hollins hit a home run at Philadelphia as the Phillies handed the Dodgers their fourth straight loss. Schilling, who had 10 complete games and four shutouts in 1992, struck out a career-high nine and walked two. He also shut out Chicago, 3-0, on April 11. Martinez, Montreal stymie San Francisco 7-2. From The Associated Press The San Francisco Giants, who had 19 hits and 13 runs 24 hours earlier at New York, ran into a team that's even hotter on Friday night.

Dennis Martinez gave up two runs in 6 innings for his first victory of the season, and Greg Col-brunn hit a two-run homer as the Montreal Expos beat the Giants 7-2 at Montreal for their fifth straight win. Martinez settled down after allowing a run-scoring double to Will Clark and an RBI single to Barry Bonds in the first inning. "One more hit and the Expos were probably going to take Martinez out in the first," Giants Manager Dusty Baker said. Martinez gave up six hits, struck out five and walked three. He entered the game with a 6.00 ERA in four previous starts, allowing 21 hits in 18 innings.

METS 6, PADRES 1: Bobby Bonilla hit two homers and drove in five runs at New York. Bonilla hit a two-run homer in the first inning off Greg Harris and added a three-run shot off reliever Pat Gomez in the eighth. Bonilla now has four homers this season all at home. He hit only .214 at Shea Stadium in 1992 with five homers. BRAVES 3, CARDINALS 1: Tom Glavine pitched four-hit ball for eight innings, and slumping Ron Gant had a tie-breaking single in the eighth at St Louis.

Gant, who had just two hits in his previous 27 at-bats, singled with one out in the eighth off reliever Rob Murphy to make it 2-1. Gant's hit drove in Jeff Blauser, who had reached second on an error by shortstop Ozzie Smith. CUBS 7, REDS 4: Sammy Sosa hit two home runs and a single, driving in five runs to lead Jose Guzman and the Cubs at Chicago. Sosa capped a four-run third inning off Tim Pugh with his two-run single, homered with two outs in the fifth after Derrick May had reached on a fielding error by second baseman Bip Roberts and hit SPOUTS DIGEST Former Yankee shortstop Koenig dies I WILLOWS, Calif. (AP) Mark Koenig, who was the last surviving member of the 1927 New York Yankees team featuring the "Murderers' Row" that included Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, died Thursday.

He was 88. Koenig, who lived in nearby Orland, died of cancer at a I convalescent hospital. The 1 927 team was in first place from start to finish in the American League and ended up 1 9 games ahead of the second-place Philadelphia Athletics. New York then swept the Pittsburgh Pirates in the World Series. Koenig was the club's starting shortstop from 1 926 to 1 929.

He finished his 13-year career with a .279 average, hitting .391 in 1928. Arbitrator rules Colts will get lineman NEW YORK (AP) An NFL arbitrator upheld offensive lineman Will Wolford's free agent contract with the Indianapolis Colts, ruling that the escalator clauses contained in the three-year, $7.65 million agreement are valid and fair. The Buffalo Bills had protested a clause requiring that Wolford be paid at least as much as the highest-paid offensive player on his team, claiming it prevented them from matching the deal and retaining the Pro Bowl player. The clause excludes quarterbacks in the contract's first year but includes them in succeeding seasons. Lions ship Pro Bowl lineman Ball to Browns PONTIAC, Mich.

(AP) The Detroit Lions traded Pro Bowl nose tackle Jerry Ball to Cleveland for the Browns' third-round draft pick. Ball, 6-foot-1 and 300 pounds, is a veteran of six years in the NFL. He was drafted in the third round by the Lions in 1987. Sullivan leads Greater Greensboro Open GREENSBORO, N.C. In the sixth, Jeff Fagler singled in Rob Portsche, who singled and advanced on an error. Prep's Bill Russell tripled in two runs in the sixth and scored the final run on Sean Croghan's sacrifice fly. Omaha Lincoln Nebraska Spring Game Rosters Red team I 3 riroarasa Six-run sixth helps Knights beat Papillion. By Ryly Jane Hambleton Lincoln Journal-Star PAPILLION Pat Lassek tripled in three runs and then came in to pitch in relief to help Lincoln Southeast to a comeback win. The Knights used a six-run sixth inning to earn a 13-9 victory over Papil-lion-LaVista Friday in the Monarch Invitational tournament at Fricke Field. In the other game Friday, Omaha Creighton Prep pounded out a 12-2 victory over Lincoln Northeast. The four teams comtinue play Saturday in the round-robin baseball tournament.

Lassek's triple put Southeast, now 7-1, ahead 5-3 in the fourth inning, and he scored on Jason Brolhorst's squeeze bunt. "Pat cleared the bases, and the squeeze bunt was a turning point for us because it proved we can do the fundamentals," said LSE Coach Randy Brolhorst. "A two-strike bunt isn't easy to execute." BUT PAPILUON bounced back in the bottom of the inning, capitalizing on a pair of errors and a pinch-hit RBI single by Eric Petersen to move back on top 8-6. "Nobody can get in a rhythm when you're outside and then inside and back out," said Papillion Coach Jim Thomas. "I thought both teams did a great job of bouncing back." Lassek and Brolhorst singled to open the sixth inning, and Ted Butler singled in a run.

Jim Mahoney was intentionally walked to load the bases, and Aaron Barksdale responded with an RBI single to tie the game. With two outs, Ryan Burbach punched a single to left to drive in the inning's final two runs for a 12-8 lead. "I was very pleased with the pitching by Aaron Madsen and Collin Gibson," said Coach Brolhorst. "Collin kept us and when we got the lead, I brought in Pat because he's been our best. He shut them down when he had to." Lassek pitched the final two innings, allowing an unearned run.
