After whisking past at least three defenders, Johnny still finds himself in the middle of a traffic jam.

The Aggies' Bill Yocum (93) appears to have a good shot at tackling Rodgers (One), but is eventually taken out of the play. Teammate Gary Whitehead (37) also is taken out by NU's Maury Damkroger (46). The last chance of derailing Rod-gers is Greg Thompson (32), but Jim Carstens (47) administers the block, which springs Johnny loose (Two). Doug Jamail (50) is his official escort the rest of the way (Three). "That's the first game he's ever been in," he said of the hard running sophomore. Our starter, Lex James, dislocated his thumb, so I wanted to give our reserves a chance and see what they could do," the Aggie head man said. First Stallings tried another sophomore, Tim Trimmier. But in the second quarter, after McElroy made a sensational return of a CorrAusker punt, Trimmier bobbled a snap from center at the Nebraska 10 to kill that opportunity. From then on, Stallings went with Green.

"The first time it really worked to our advantage because they didn't have Johnny Rodgers in to receive," Stallings offered. "Secondly, it's harder for them to put on a good rush, because they can't be sure we're really going to kick." Stallings was upset over a Nebraska punt that "was touched but not controlled" by the Cornhuskers, then picked up by linebacker Steve Lueb- 4 1ft "9 Dave Mason (25) has best v'' 1 id'' By VIRGIL PARKER Texas coach Gene Stallings didn't have very rrrany things to cheer about after his Aggies absorbed a beating from the Nebraska Cornhuskers Saturday. Two of the few bright spots were the punt and kickoff returns of Hugh McElroy and the stubborn play of his defensive unit early in the game. "One decision I'd make the same way again," Stallings admitted, "was our choice of the wind instead of the ball at the start of the game." Kicking off, despite winning the coin toss, defense kept Nebraska in poor field position until a 67-yard run by Bill Olds in the closing seconds of the first quarter broke a scoreless struggle. "Our problem was letting them get away with the long ones," Stallings said of that first TD and following tallies of 98, 32 and 95 yards on a kickoif return, pass play and an aerial interception runback.

"We'll have to work on keeping the opposition from the 'big play' and we'll be okay. Other than those, our defense played pretty tough," he said. Though injuries also dimmed INDIVIDUAL STATISTICS Texas Rushing No. Yds. Ave.

"I don't think they ever had possession of the ball," Stallings said of the Cornhuskers, "Just touching the ball doesn't kill it. So I went out to question the decision. I certainly don't think I deserved a 15-yard penalty.

I didn't say anything disrespectful to the ref. Maybe they did blow the whistle, which would kill the play. But I don't think they should have." Stallings called Nebraska a "good, topnotch ball club that really hits hard. But we hit pretty good too," he added.
