Led by Wylie's three touchdowns, two by quarterback Jack Mildren and another by Greg Pruitt, the Sooners chewed up 232 yards on the ground, 79 more through the air and rolled up a 42-17 halftime lead. In the first half, 1 1 1 i 'V- -y 'y TK v. A jh- "ifv If fe? i 'iv' if i 'i i y--v and marched from its own 22 to the Oklahoma 15 before Eric Knisley kicked a 32-yard field goal.

The lead lasted only 14 seconds. Wylie took the ensuing kickoff at his 15, swung around a pack of defenders at the 35 and raced down the right sideline untouched. Three plays later, Oklahoma's Albert Quails recovered a fumble by Joel Klimek following a completed pass at the Pitt 33. Mildren passed 23 yards to Wylie and eventually circled left end from the two for a 14-7 lead. The next time the Sooners got the ball they stormed 60 yards in five plays with Pruitt scampering around left end for the first 12 yards and the last 32 behind Wylie's block, and it was 21-3 with less than 11 minutes gone.

The Sooners, who rushed for 342 yards in their opener against Southern Methodist, finished with 425 on the ground and 149 passing. UP) Chuck Roper fired two touchdown passes and the Missouri defense made a shambles of Southern Methodist's flying wishbone Saturday as the Tigers scored a 24-12 decision over the Mustangs of the Southwest Conference for their first victory of this football season. The Big Eight Conference team now is 1-2. SMU is 0-2.

Roper flipped a 20-yard pass to John Kelsey for the first touchdown on Missouri's initial play from scrimmage and found Charles McMurry with, a 27-yarder for six more points in the third quarter. A 34-yard pass from Roper to Otto Nichols put the ball on the SMU one earlier in the third period, and Don Johnson piled over the middle for the touchdown. Greg Hill converted three times and connected on a 20-yard field goal. ''We were tired of being criticized," said Roper. "We called an offensive meeting this morning without the Roper said.

He also got a big thank you from Bill Olds for his block which let the big fullback turn the corner on his 67-yard touchdown gallop. "I don't think I ever knocked him Rodgers said of his block on the cornerback, "but I stayed with him a long time." "Johnny's block and one by Jerry List were the ones which made it possible," said Olds. "As soon as I got past List's block the only thing I saw was No. 30 (Bland Smith) coming from the other side. I didn't know if I could get past him.

I was just worrying about getting as much out of the run as I could," he said. It was the longest run of Olds' brief Cornhusker career. He went 36 yards, but didn't score, on a similar play against Oklahoma State last year. "It took us longer to crank up and get going," said Olds of the Cornhusker offense. "Texas was quick, just like the scouts told us." Offensive guard Keith Wortman said he and his line mates "just didn't do the job." "We weren't consistent.

Just hit and miss. It's a lot more satisfying if you can drive 80 yards and score instead of getting the big plays we did today," he said. Wortman lauded the quickness of the Aggies. "That 31 (linebacker Grady Hoermann) is the fastest player I've played against." he said. Pruitt carried eight times for 100 yards, Wylie six for 54 and Mildren for 51.

Mildren added a third touchdown early in the third period. It was the second consecutive lopsided victory for Oklahoma, ranked 11th in The Associated Press college football poll, while Pitt is 1-1. With three passes by John Hogan accounting for 55 yards, Pitt took the opening kickoff Gary Dixon picked up four. Tagge then pitched the ball to Olds, swinging wide around the right side and Olds scooted 67 yards for the tally. Few Long Drives But it was well into the second quarter before the Husker offense was able to put one of its patented time-consuming, ground-chewing drives together to give the Black Shirts a chance to sit back and relax.

kickoff and punt return specialists Hugh 1 returned a Jeff Hughes punt from his 45 to the NU 14 and again the Black Shirts had to respond. They did so quickly with Harper recovering a fumble at the NU 11. Tagge then directed one of those patented marches, going 89 yards in 19 plays and eating up nearly eight minutes on the clock. Tagge threw only four passes on the 19-play drive, completing three of them 13 yards to List, 15 to Olds and 10 to Woody Cox. The remaining yardage was eaten up three, four and five yards at a time by Tagge, Kinney and Dixon with Tagge getting the final yard with 2:22 left in the half.

Rich Sanger's PAT attempt was blocked, but the Huskers took a 13-0 lead into the dressing room at halftime. Few First Dow ns The Husker defense had been so domineering and nasty in the first half that didn't pick up a first down until less than 30 seconds remained in the first 30 minutes. And the Husker offense, while being mistake-prone, piled up a huge 304-25 edge in total yardage and ran 59 plays ro only 29 for the Aggies in that first half. If it was obvious at halftime that things had started going the Huskers' way, all doubt was removed in the first 13 seconds of the second half, the time it took Rodgers to go his 98 yards with the second half kickoff. And the score had mounted to 27-0 on an 80-yard drive in 10 plays, winding up with Tagge finding Rodgers all alone at the three and hitting him for the 32-yard scoring strike, before completed its first pass with less than four minutes left in the third quarter.

The tally was 34-0 before the Aggies got on the board with McElroy providing a bomb of his own, going 94 yards with the kickoff that followed Kosch's 95-yard interception return. Helping to sooth Kinney's injured feelings over losing the early fumble was the fact that he moved up another notch on the Husker rushing ladder, taking over fifth place on the chart. Kinney Bypasses Davis Kinney's 14 carries for 51 yards gave him a career total of 402 carries for 1,538 yards to bypass Dick Davis' 1,514 and move him to within nine yards of No. 4 Bob Smith. Tagge's 172 passing yards on 14 of 23 passes moved him closer to the No.

3 spot on the all-time Big Eight ledger. Tagge, the all-time Husker leader, now has passed for 3.379 yards, only 72 short of Iowa State's Tim Van Galder. The Huskers will wind up their pre-conference slate Saturday with Utah State coming to Memorial Stadium. 475-1071 Continued From Page ID hard after a 13-yanl pass from Tagge. "In most games Butler won't be carrying 40 times," Gibson said. "Usually, Butler will carry about 20 times and Isaac Jackson will carry about 20 times.
