By HAL BROWN Star Sports Editor A new contract between the horsemen and the ate 'fairgrounds has been signed, assuring that Lincoln's race meet will open on schedule Tuesday, Fairgrounds general manager Henry Brandt said Wednesday. A contract dispute between Ak-Sar-Ben and the horsemen had threatened the opening of the Omaha track earlier this 'season, but the dispute was 'settled less than 48 hours before the first post time.

Some observers had felt the Lincoln meeting might also be threatened, but Brandt said the contract was signed Tuesday Evening. The new contract, for only one year, calls for the horsemen to receive 49 per cent of the track's share of the take-out. -Out of each $100 that is bet, 06 goes back to the bettors. The state gets $4 and the track $10. Of that $10, the horsemen will now receive $4.90 in purse with the track having $5.10 of every $100 wagered Bobby Fischer in Uie first game of their championsntp- match Wednesday, pushing the unpredictable American one point behind in their 24-game series.

Big Eight Attendance Climbing KANSAS CITY (AP) Brisk football ticket sales are reported throughout the Big Eight Conference. The conference, if the sales continue at their current pace, could top its 1971 season when the Big Eight had the nation's top three teams, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Colorado in that order.

A year ago, Big Eight teams played to 2,079,936 customers or to 93 per cent capacity. Nebraska and Colorado are both already sold cut for the season. The Cornhuskers have 76,000 seats and Colorado 50,000. Season ticket sales at Missouri have topped! 16,000 and likely will break last year's record 18,000. Kansas is running ahead of last year with about 11,000 sold, and Kansas State has sold 7,200, well ahead of last season.

The record at Kansas is 12,000 and the record at Kansas State 8,900. John Novotny, assistant athletic director at Kansas, said sales are extremely heavy for the Nebraska, Oklahoma and Florida State games. For the two Big Eight games, he expects a sellout. Novotny described Florida State game as "our most attractive nonconference game in some time probably since Syracuse and Ernie Davis." The Kansas and Colorado games lead in popularity at Kansas State although neither is a sellout. Missouri's big game from a ticket buying standpoint so far is Colorado.

Iowa State, which has doubled its season ticket sales, reports a sellout for the Nebraska encounter. Oklahoma and Oklahoma State say tickets are moving well. to conduct the meeting. During the 1971 Lincoln meeting, the horsemen received 46Mi per cent. "We would like to have had more than a one-year contract," Brandt offered, "But Lincoln To Offer New Service For Double Bettors The State Fairgrounds will inaugurate this year a new daily double service for patrons of the Lincoln meeting.

Brandt said the horsemen, however, did agree to one stipulation. "They agreed to meet with all the track operators this fall or winter before the 1973 dates are allotted to try to work out the contracts," the Fairgrounds manager said. Brandt is basing his 1972 purse schedule on a projected average daily handle of $218,000, meaning that during the 30-day meeting which opens Tuesday and runs through Aug. 23, horsemen will be vying for approximately $435,000 in purse money.
