"Vr rv rvri Friday, May 14, 1954 THE INDIANAPOLIS NEWS V V - i INDIANAPOLIS ON THE AIR Format Switch Saved Red By GEORGIA GIAXAKOS TV's -"ho-ho-he-he" man, Red Buttons, is nappy as a lark since his show has switched back to its original format. "I was terribly miscast," Red said by long-distance phone. "I knew it was wrong from the start." TV fans will recall the Buttons show switched from a variety-type show to a family-type a few months ago but it just didn't "go" with fans, i For some TV viewers situation-comedy shows have done bonders, but for Red it almost meant the end of his career. Since the show has gone back to its original format. Red is trying for his second breath. ... "Grossly exaggerated," he said of the reports of the drastic, continual changes in his writing staff. He now has two of. his original writers working for him gain. . Buttons' 30-minute show, seen on film on WFBM-TV and WTTV, will continue up to June 14. There is nothing definite in his future plans . , . except a stint at Las Vegas and, perhaps, a European trip. Red rose to phenomenal heights last season. Perhaps a monthly show might give Red a better chance to show off his talent. v TIME CHANGE: The telecast of the Speedway's time trials by WFBM-TV has been changed from 5 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. WIRE has announced it will interrupt its regular schedule of programs tomorrow and Sunday to bring news of qualifiers from the track. COMING tP: Football, Canadian style, will be brought to TV viewers in America this fall for the first time by NBC. The network will telecast 13 Saturday afternoon games featuring the Eastern Big Four teams of the Canadian Professional League. The series, including the playoffs, will begin on August 28 and conclude on November 20 . . . "East of Athens," a special series of 15 broadcasts on the Middle East by Dr. Lyman Bryson, based on observations made during his recent visits there, will begin on CBS-Radio May 17 . . . Walt. Disney's 26 hour-long shows for ABC-TV next season will be made up of four different series: "Frontierland," "World of Tomorrow," "True Life Adventures" and "Fantasyland." . . . Ronald Reagan may be CBS' answer to NBC's Robert Montgomery in the fall. He's lining up top-drawer Hollywood talent for the General Electric drama series over which he will preside.
