The Lincoln Stor Thursdoy, August 21, 1986 Poge A proposal to build new surgery, burn and emergency nftrfl-units at St. Elizabeth Community Hpgrtti Center came before the Lincoln-Lancaster County Planning Commission i emergency room, burn unit and outfitient additions total 20,000 square feitlind are proposed to be located on Ufst side of the hospital. uflle oneway fiurgery aijfltUon is proposed for the east side. (vSonne Leung, commission chair-" wpmin, noted that the hospital heliport ls.also slated to be relocated on the hospital's west side and she questioned why the hospital's two noisiest uses, the hell- port and emergency room, are proposed to be near an adjacent residential area to the west i Architect Albert Hamersky replied that the heliport and emergency room locations won't be much different from where they are now and that the hospl-tal's design makes it impractical to expand to the north and south. Hamersky also told the commission that the additions on the west side of the building would be heavily screened from the nearby Taylor Park East Addition.

The additions would be the same height -16 feet as the existing first floor. Also included in St Elizabeth's special permit request are plans for a 60-stall parking lot for outpatients and an 11-stall lot for emergency patients, The commission is scheduled to make a recommendation on the proposal next week. The state Certificate of Need Review Committee has already endorsed the expansion. The commission also heard from area residents opposed to a plan to develop a project of six single-family lots called Stockwell Ridge near 40th and StockweQ streets. The residents complained of existing and potential drainage, water sewer system and property assessment problems.

The commission delayed action for one week on the requests so city staff could respond to those complaints.
