THE ABILENE MORNING REPORTER-NEWS Sunday Morning, July 21,1935 Large Crowd Expected at Sweetwater's Water Carnival BE mm Sponsors from 30 Towns Jo Take Part In Coronation Event Thursday Evening 8WEETWATER, July Is all set to Inaugurate something new In West Texas on Thun- day, July 25, when the First Annual Water Carnival will be held an event, expected to attract several thousand rrom towns and cities within a 100-mile radius. To be held in Sweetwater's new $35,000 swimming pool, the carnival will include water contests such as diving and swimming with teams representing cities in this section competing throughout the day, and concluding with the finals In the contests and a Venetian Pageant at which the Venetian Goddess will be crowned. Young lady sponsors from at least 30 towns will be present for the pageant and from among them will be selected the goddess to preside during awarding of the prizes and trophies to winners In the water contests. The coronation will take place beginning at 8 o'clock that night en a beautiful arched Venetian bridge suspended over the pool and decorated profusely with flowers, vines and pastel colors. The Goddess will be selected from among the out-of-town sponsors, Sweetwater's representative not being eligible for the diadem.

Dance An invitatalon dance honoring the Visiting sponsors and their escorts be held at the Made Hotel after the comoatlon. The water contests will begin at 9 o'clock In the morning and continue until noon, beginning again at 2 p. m. Finals will be held beginning at 8:30 that night, Immediately alter the coronation ceremonies. Inclusive; and seniors, over 18. Girls' groups will Include those under 12, from 13 to .16, inclusive, and 17 and over. Events will Include back stroke, breast crawl and free style races In each division with distances of 10, 40, 60 and 100 yards; forward, backward, cutaway and twist dives, ind "seven point" swimming form contests for all groups.

The team relay races, a beautiful trophy to be awarded the winners, are expected to be the chief attraction of the contests. New Pool The pool where the contests will fce held Is located In City Park, one of the most beautiful picnic places in West Texas. The water is filtered through a forced chlorinating system each 14 hours and is absolutely free from any bacteria or foreign matter, according to health officials who inspect it frequently. The sides and floors of the pool are swept with a vacuum cleaner as often as necessary. Seats are being provided on three sides of the pool to accommodate the crowd of West Texans expected to be present. Hooten Pioneer Minister To Hold Revival At Clyde Church Bev. C. B. Hooten, pastor of the Methodist church at Plainvlew, will preach In a two-weeks revival meeting beginning today at the ilethodis; church at Clyde. Rev.

Darnell, district supervisor, from George H. Fern, state director of education.
