"I've never lost six games in a row at anytime I can remember," Peterson said referring to NWU's dismal start.

But the pressure won't let up for the Plainsmen though, as they host the Wabash College Little Giants of Indiana Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. in Taylor Gym on the Wesleyan campus. The game will be sandwiched between the championship game of the W-Club Invitational High School Basketball tournament at 9:15 p.m. and the consolation championship at 3:15 p.m. Eight, class and teams are participating in the tourney.

Hands Full Peterson added freshman 6-8 forward Mark Simmerman to the Plainsmen lineup to help boost center Blake Butler under the boards. But even with that change NWU will have its hands full with Wabash. Of the eight returning Wabash lettermen, four are starters from last year's 4-22 team. All five starters are seniors and 6-6 center Cliff Bell has led the team in rebounding since he was a freshman. Last year Bell averaged 13.9 points per game, second best behind 6-0 guard Leon Fulkerson, who averaged 14.2 points.

The Little Giants are currently 2-4 against the likes of Kentucky State, Augustana, DL, and Central State Ohio with San Francisco State, Butler and Evansville on the remaining schedule. "Sure we've got a tough schedule," said Wabash coach Snowy Simpson, whose record in three years is 18-56. "But my boys were weaned on tough schedules. With our experience and a new depth we haven't had in years, we're going to do better than last year," the former Kansas State assistant coach said. Senior guard Bob Knollenberg is the current scoring leader for the Plainsmen with 69 points in six games.

Another senior guard, Larry Abel, is the second leading scorer, just ahead of Butler and forward Kim Veerhusen. Simmerman is the hottest shooter from the field for Wesleyan with a .630 field goal mark. Other College Games Tournaments beginning Monday include the Kearney State tourney, in which Kearney meets Southwest Minnesota and Wisconsin-LaCrosse faces Colorado College. The winners will play for the championship on Tuesday. Kearney has won the tourney the past six years.

At Wayne State, Wayne faces Midland and Westmar faces Bellevue, while at Hastings College, the Broncos play Bethany and Sioux Falls meets Rockhurst. Chadron hosts Concordia at the Chadron State meet and Northern Montana faces Mt. Marty, Black Hills State versus Condordia, Minn, and Colorado Mines against Bethel. carrier was ASU's Williams, who rushed for 111 yards in 18 attempts, mostly on draws and quick traps up the middle of the Husker defense. Anthony's 94 yards in 22 tries was Nebraska's top mark.

"I just don't know why we didn't stop their traps," defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin said. "It was nothing new. I couldn't believe they were popping open, somebody must have been making a mistake." Kiffin thought the Huskers' defensive backs did a great job. "They weren't giving anything next thing I knew it was floating through the air." "Davis had the ball," Osborne concurred. "We'd have been very disappointed if we had fallen on it and we hadn't been given the ball." The game ended an illustrous career at Nebraska for Davis, who became the Huskers' all-time leading ball carrier after gaining 60 yards in 17 carries.

His three-year total was 25 vards more than the previous mark of 2,420 held by Jeff Kinney. The game's leading ball cheap," he said. "That was our whole defensive plan. They tried to go deep a lot." He said the Huskers were in a defense that should have been very difficult to trap. The Huskers were in a blitz on both the final touchdown and die two-point conversion, which forced them into man-to-man pass coverage and put pressure on the defensive backs.

"There was a broken assignment on the two-point play," he said. Notice is hereby given that a public hearing will be held by the City of Lincoln in the City Council Chambers, 1st floor, County-City Building, 555 South 10th Morning Briefing A Sports Roundup United Press International If Los Angeles Rams Coach Chuck Knox looks a little worried Saturday, there's a reason. James Harris, his No. 1 quarterback, has a sore shoulder and is having problems throwing the football. Harris, who took over as the Rams' quarterback last year and has produced back-to-back NFC West titles, sat out last Saturday night's season finale against Pittsburgh and only began throwing again Thursday. Knox is still undaided whether Harris will start Saturday's first round playoff against the St.

Louis Cardinals. He'll make a decision on whether to go with Harris or backup Ron Jaworski just before the 4 p.m. EST gametime. Jaworski's first pro start was against the World Champion Sleelers last week and the result was a 10-3 victory. The second- year man irom Youngstown State ran five yards for the winning score late in the game.

The Cardinals, meanwhile, are in good physical shape. Star running back Terry Metcalf was nursing some sore spots but he'll be ready for his razzle dazzle running. Metcalf suffered a bruised hip in a victory over Dallas, sat out a win at Chicago and played little more than one half as St. Louis defeated Detroit. The 5-foot-9 speedster, who set an NFL record for total of fensive yardage production this season, also has a sprained toe and a sore ankle.

"It hurts but I'm gonna be okay," said Metcalf. "I'll be ready." Pittsburgh, the AFC Central winner, takes on AFC Eastern Champion Baltimore in Saturday's other opening round game while on Sunday, Minnesota, the NFC Central winner, faces wild card choice Dallas and Oakland, the AFC West champion, takes on Cincinnati, also a wild card club. Minnesota worked all week in Tulsa, to avoid the severe weather at home. Viking coach Bud Grant said veteran linebacker Roy Winston, out a month with an injured shoulder, returned to practice but that second-year man Fred McNeill would start at left linebacker, with Winston ready for duty. Oakland coach John Madden is worried about two of his wide receivers, Fred Biletnikoff and Mike Siani.

Both have had leg problems and both depend a great deal on precise patterns to be effective complementing speedster Cliff Branch. The Raiders also are down to only four healthy defensive linemen after losing Tony Cline with a knee injury.
