Frank B. Morrison of Nebraska said the state's most vital crop is its men and women who have played important- rpjes in the economic and political development of the nations. "It's their sense of responsibility and dedication that transformed the great American desert into the productive heartland it now is," the governor said. It was also a reunion day for Nebraskans. As the governor and his wife entered the fair, they were greeted by Richard Patterson, chief of protocol of the fair who is a native of Omaha.

Also present was Gen. William E. Potter, executive vice president of the fair who was stationed in Omaha during much of the construction of the Missouri Basin Development Project. He gave Morrison a silver World's Fair medallion and Mrs. Morrison a golden Unisphere charm.

The ceremonies were held at the Tiparillo Band Pavilion. Among those attending were Maj. Gen. Lyle Welch, adjutant general of Nebraska, and his wife. The official observance included a solo performance by Mrs.

Morrison. She was supported by the Nebraska Wesleyan University concert choir. Then, Mrs. Morrison introduced a new song, "Stand Up and Shout Nebraska," with the support of the Wesleyan Choir and Scottsbluff High JSchooLband. The song was written for the occasion by Dr.

I 0 1 A. 1 -j Lincoln Star Special Friend The home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Eberhardt of Friend is getting a German touch. The Eberhardts were married in 1958 in Germany when Fred was stationed with the armed forces near Frankfort.

Fred brought his wife back to America with him when he was discharged in 1960. In April, Mrs. Eberhardt's parents, Josepf and Marie i of Elz, Germany crossed the Atlantic to visit their daughter and three grandchildren. Schmidt, like any good grandfather, brought gifts with him. He packed along a dozen handmade German pipes and a coo-coo clock.

No Rest The four-m visit to America was to have been a vacation for the retired German farmer and his wife, but Schmidt, whose hobby is masonry, has done anything but take it easy. Only a few days after his arrival in Friend he began work on a miniature mbdel of a castle which is located near his home in Germany. Finding building materials became a problem. Rocks are at a premium in this part of the state and Schmidt had to travel many long miles to find them. But find them he did and now the marvelous 1 i 1 1 structure adorns the nt lawn of the Eberhardt home, providing a genuine 'tourist attraction for person, in the area: FOR OVER Roberts 11101112 Strtet S) 12:30 a.m.
