September II, 1976, UbcoIi, Studiy Jouul ud Star 5D ps- rv "iff Solid Husker Program Impresses IU's Corso Bears in their prime," Corso said. "I knew if we were going to get 'em, we'd have to trick 'em," he said. "We used all the imagination you can use with a pencil. But Nebraska is so good, so strong, so physical. If we played them 10 times, we might beat them once, but I don't know how we'd do it." 7 03 7 A sow Indiana's Russ Compton By Randy York Bloomlngton, Ind.

Lee Cor 80, 40, propped himself up on a railing and unleashed his wit Saturday after Nebraka's 45-13 win over his Indiana Hoosiers. When someone mentioned injuries as the first item of business, Corso thought a second, smiled and plunged right into character. "Listen," he said, "we could have had all our guys healthy, plus the band, plus the ATOs (a fraternity) and maybe the National Guard then we might have just come a little closer. Nine Redshirts "That defense of theirs Is devastating," he said. "Nine of them are redshirts and eight are 22 years old.

I have one guy on my whole team who's 22. "We kept trying to find a guy out there who wasn't redshirted so we could pick on him," Corso said. "Finally, we found one Mike Fultz and he's a giant I mean a real, true to life giant." Corso wanted it understood that "I'm not complaining. I'm merely stating a fact. Nebraska has a solid football program, the kind of program I'd like to have at Indiana someday." The fourth-year Hoosier coach, who has won only five games at Indiana, wasn't all that disappointed.

"At least we got a couple touchdowns," he said. "That's progress. Last year, we couldn't get a fiundred yards against Nebraska running, passing or cheating." 302 Yards Offense Indiana finished with only 97 yards total offense in last year's 454) loss to Nebraska in Lincoln. Saturday, the Hoosiers generated 302 yards total offense and 17 first downs. Much of Indiana's success came against Nebraska's second team defense.

"I looked at that Nebraska defense out there and, I'll tell you, they looked like the Chicago ni aafaaaaaatEiteai (76) fights through the block of Gary Higgs (46) and pressures NU passer, Vince Ferragamo (15). Corso pointed out that Mike Harkrader, the 5-9 freshman tailback who scored a fourth quarter touchdown on a one-' yard run, was probably the only Hoosier who could score on thai play. Just Like a Mole "He's so short," Corso said, "that he ran right underneath Nebraska's defensive players. A normal running back would not have scored. Harkrader was just like a mole." Corso couldn't resist referring to two big Indiana plays early in the third quarter.

They caught Nebraska's defense napping, but neither produced scores. The first, a 30-yard double reverse to split end Don Burrell, carried to the Nebraska 37-yard line. "I've been waiting for that reverse for a year," Corso said. "It was set up perfectly. Burrell should have gone all the way." Indiana ended up punting.

Corso also lamented that a 32-yard Terry Jones to Keith Calvin pass on Indiana's next possession did not yield a touchdown after earning a first down on the Nebraska 34. kill am that nlau Corso said, "but it worked. I call that my thank God, It's about time play. Only why couldn't the same kind of thing have happened last year against Purdue (a 9-7 Indiana-loss)?" Indiana ended up punting on that series, too. Calvin was the Hoosiers brightest spot, catching 8 passes for 123 yards. "We should have started earlier though," he said.

"You can't get down, 24-0r against Nebraska and expect to come back. They're like Ohio State and Michigan. Once they get the jump, they're not going to quit pushing." Jones took over at quarterback after starter Bob Kramer sustained a knee injury. Before suffering a hip pointer, Jones hit 8 of 13 passes for 145 yards, including a three-yard scoring pass to Calvin. "We just tried to get Nebraska's defense running sideline to sideline, so they'd get tired," Jones said.

"That helped open up the trap. Little Difference "I see no difference between this year's Nebraska team and last year's," he added. "Maybe they don't have as good a nose guard, but that No. 91 (Ron Pruitt) makes up for that. They were good, real good, but not that devastating.

Somebody will get to them later on." Corso's not so sure. "They execute on offense about as well as anyone in the country," he observed, "and you already know what I think about all those redshirts on defense They're just as good on offense as last year and better on defense. How many times did they lose last year twice?" prepares to grab an NU 5 r'-'- Dave Butterfield (34), the veteran in the Huskers' defensive backfield, cuts in front of Keith Calvin (22) and makes an interception at the two-yard line.
