UMA is a consortium of 11 universities in five midwestern states, which operates non-traditional higher education programs. The Institutional Advisory Council is a group of faculty, administrators and students from the participating schools. They advise the UMA president and board of trustees. The Nebraska Aeronautics Department accepted 17 bids Friday morning to be considered for purchasing a new state airplane. The state is going to buy a new plane to replace one that was damaged in a Sept.

17 crash. Director Wayne Andersen asked and received permission from the state Aeronau injured. Many of the new plane bids were close in price and Auer said the choice would be made by comparing number of miles on the engine, inspections and equipment. Salvage, insurance and $16,000 already set aside for the Bonanza craft, will be used in purchasing a new plane. Aviation of Beatrice for a six-passenger Piper Aztec.

The low bid of $76,000 was for a four-passenger Grumman American Cougar. Several new plane bidders asked for the salvage of the twin-engine, five-passenger Beechcraft Bonanza that was damaged when its engine failed and the pilot was WASHINGTON (AP) Rep John Cavanaugh, reported Friday the House Post Office and Civil Service Committee has moved a bill to the House floor to make Jan. 15 each year a national holiday in observance of the birth date of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Cavanaugh, a member of the committee, said the bill should come to a vote in the House within the next few weeks.

A spokesman from Cavanaugh's Washington office said a similar bill is pending in the Senate. Since King's death in 19, 14 states have made his birthday a holiday. J.egislation was introduced to make the date a national holiday on Jan. 15, 1979, by flep. John Conyers, D-Mich.
