OSU now is 4-4-1 overall and 2-3 in the conference. On the second play from scrimmage, Branch took a direct snap at the tailback spot and caught nearly everyone by surprise, sprinting 64 yards down the1 left side for the touchdown. Fullback John Tarver scored from eight yards out early in the second quarter for Oil's second score. Less than two minutes later, after a dipping penalty nullified Branch's 64-yard punt return for a score, Davis took a pitchout and ran 67 yards for the TD.

Later in the period, Branch, taking the ball on an apparent reverse, instead passed 38 yards to end J.V. Cain to set up the third CU touchdown. Less than a minute before the half, Branch passed 48 yards on a similar play to tight end Bob Masten for the 33-0 halftime bulge. a i i t1. Kinney had previously Joe Orduna and Bobby Reynolds. Wildcats Produce Second-Quarter Scores Cox Spark Nebraska Two offside penalties and an 11-yard run by Bill Holman gave the Wildcats a first down at the eight, but the Black Shirts pushed K-State back to the 17 and Goerger booted a 34-yard-field goal to make it 14-9. Then it was Nebraska's turn again and Tagge drove the Cornhuskers 79 yards in just nine plays, the big gainer being a 30-yard strike to Rodgers. Kinney, who had a certain 25-yard TD pass dropped by a wide-open Cox on the drive, got the touchdown on a one yard run. It was his 29th career touchdown, most ever scored by a Cornhusker.

The Black Shirts put two more points on the board moments later when Rich Houston Rips VPI, 56-29 Va.Tech Houiton Dixon, Rich Sanger's second conversion made it 11-0 with 1:21 left in the quarter and even the partisan purple-clad K-Staters in the crowd of 42,300 were wondering if it would be a rout, rout. Those thoughts were quickly dissipated. On the last two plays of the opening quarter, quarterback Dennis Morrison hit tight end Henry Childs for 13 yards and split end Fred Merrill for 11 yards to move the ball to the Nebraska 36. When the Wildcats got inside the 30 they lined up in the wishbone formation the Cornhus kers will face Thanksgiving Day. That first exposure was none too pleasant.

The Cyclones, bouncing back from successive defeats to the nation's No. 1 and No.

2 ranked teams, Nebraska and Oklahoma, boosted their record to 63 over-all and 3-3 In the conference. Missouri, winless In six conference games, is 1-9 over-all, which ties its 1955 record for the most losses in one season. The Cyclones never trailed as big George Amundson went crashing over from the two for the first touchdown with 11:56 left in the first period. Amundson scored three times on runs of two, nine and one yards and passed 11 yards for another touchdown. Missouri, behind 24-10 at the half, pulled within seven points in the third quarter when Scot-ty Bell, a 6-1, 220 pound senior, recovered an ISU fumble in the Cyclone end zone for a touchdown.

Amundson, however, put the game out of reach with a one-yard run in the fourth quarter. The touchdown came after Pat Blair scampered 65 yards on a punt return with five seconds to go in the third quarter. After Amundson's touchdown, quarterback Dean Carlson hit Keith Krepfle with a 33-yard pass with 11:26 left, and about five minutes later hit Krepfle again with a 13-yard toss for two other touchdowns. The Tigers' other scores came on a 53-yard field goal by Greg.jaiUJ.nJLb" JinUiiiaEtf setting a Missouri school record for distance, and with 43 seconds left in the first period, Mike Fink raced 91 yards into the end zone with a punt return. Fink's touchdown came with just 11 seconds after Amundson hit Willie Jones with an 11-yard scoring pass.

It was a particularly satisfying victory for Amundson, Carlson and the Cyclones and kept their chances for a bowl bid alive. Amundson, who netted 140 yards in 23 carries, set a new season school rushing record of 1,003 yards, surpassing Dave Hoppmann's mark of 920 In 1961. Carlson's two touchdown passes ran his career total to 18, equaling the school record by Rich Mann in 1951-52. The Cyclones, who have two games left, have now posted the most victories in one season since the 7-3 records of the 1959 and 1960 Iowa State teams It was also the first time Iowa State has beaten Missouri at home since 1955, and the first time it has taken two In a row from the Tigers since the mid-1950s. Iowa State piled up 262 yards Pushing while holding Missouri to 110.

The Tigers, however, held the passing edge, 93-91. The game was marred by several turnovers, with each team Intercepting two passes while, the Tigers lost the ball three times on fumbles and Iowa State once. (AP) -Sophomore tailback Charlie Davis galloped for 342 yards to set a Big Eight single-game rushing record and also became the top Colorado rusher for a season as the Buffs routed Oklahoma State 40-6 Saturday at Folsom Stadium. Davis became only the third CU player in history to gain 1,000 yards in a season and eclipsed the old mark of 1,121 set by Byron (Wbizzer) White in 1937. He topped the old Big Eight mark of 293 yards for one game set by Oklahoma's Greg Pruitt earlier this year. The Buffs, shaking off some crippling penalties, struck for four second-quarter touchdowns with Davis and split end Cliff Branch doing most of the damage. CU bit off yardage in huge chunks in the first half, with Davis accounting for 206 yards rushing on 17 carries in the first two periods.

He saw only sporadic action from midway through the second quarter through the rest of the game. lowan's Horse Winner Han Fox, owned by Joyce Johnson of Waterloo, Iowa, was crowned as the world champion performance horse as the World Championship Appaloose Performance Show concluded at the Fairgrounds Saturday night. Tagge hit Cox for 34 yards on the first play of the 57-yard drive, then handed off to Dixon four straight times for the final 13 yards. Cox took a 56-yard pitch from Tagge late in the third quarter for his first TD catch of the season. That gave Nebraska a 37-9 lead and it looked like it might be worse when John Adkins covered a K-State fumble at the 11 moments later.

Dixon, however, fumbled on the first play and K-State got the ball back. The Wildcats took advantage of an unsuccessful fourth-down gamble by Nebraska late in the quarter to make their final scoring drive. Dixon was stopped short at the Nebraska 35 on a fourth and inches carry and the Wildcats took it to the end zone in 10 plays. That was K-State's last offensive threat. The Cornhuskers wrapped up the day's scoring after a Willie Harper interception gave Nebraska the ball at the Kansas State 33 midway in the final period.

On third and 16, Tagge connected with Rodgers. Johnny held on the ball despite a savage tackle by K-State defender Terry Brown. After that it was largely a battle of cheering sections. Nebraska's chants of "we're No. 1" were countered by "Oklahoma No.

1" and "Big Red No. 2" by the K-State contingent. The win was the 10th in succession this year and the 20th in succession over a two-year span by Nebraska. Oklahoma carries a 9-0 record and an 11-game unbeaten streak into the Nov. 25 confrontation.

Swanson's Nebraska record was set in 1921 and matched as a Big Eight standard by Missouri's Mel Gray in 1969. Then the Black Shirts forced a K-State punt which was downed on the Nebraska six. Tagge, hitting on three critical third down plays while in K-State territory, marched the Cornhuskers 94 yards in 17 plays, the final five yards being covered by alternate I-back Gary Dixon. K-State had to score twice to get on the board after Morrison's eight-yard scamper around left end was called back, but the fired-up Wildcats were successful when Morrison lobbed a pass over linebacker Jim Branch to Childs in the end zone. Linebacker Bob Terrio, who had another in a string of excellent games, took some of the sting out of the score when he stormed in to block John Goerger's extra point try. But the Nebraska jubilation was short-lived.
