He was 60. Cowan is survived by his wife, Theresa; three sons, including Patrick Cowan of Griffith; five daughters, including Rose Weis, Susan Kiefer, and Nancy and Chris Cowan, all of Crown Point; seven grandchildren; and three brothers.
