CD RECORDS xxi Journal Star Saturday, May 30,1993 Bill Giles dead at 66 BY SARAH WEST Uncoh Journal Star he graduated, but he passed. During his days at Nebraska, someone once claimed Giles wanted to play at the College of the Pacific and that he didn't like being a Husker. "If you've ever visited there, you can hardly blame him for feeling that way," the Pacific proponent said of Lincoln. After Giles was informed of his purported anti-Nebraska feelings, according to a Lincoln Star article, he was very interested to know how the Pacific backer could have gotten that impression. He became known as "Coach Giles" after his playing days, coaching football and baseball He stayed in Nebraska for the better part of his career, coaching at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Hiram State College, Chadron State College, Fort Hays State University in Kansas, Eastern New Mexico University, Sydney High School, Geneva High School and Norfolk High SchooL In 1995, Giles was inducted Into the Chadron State College Athletic Hall of Fame for his coaching achievements.

Beatrice losing both assistant principals BEATRICE (AP) The Beatrice Public School system has lost both its assistant principals. Beatrice High School Assistant Principal Don Cunningham and Beatrice Middle School Assistant Principal Robert Guenzel Jr.

have both resigned. The announcements follow the retirement of Beatrice Middle School Principal Dennis Hynek. Cunningham, who announced his resignation last Thursday, has been hired to succeed Tim George as principal of Archbishop Bergan Junior-Senior High School in Fremont. Cunningham has been assistant principal at Beatrice High School for the past five years and was principal at Lewiston Consolidated Schools two years before coming to Beatrice. Guenzel's resignation was accepted by the Beatrice Board of Education at its May 11 meeting.

He will be on duty until Aug. 1. Guenzel said his decision came in part because he wants to work with his brother on a commercial business in Lincoln and complete his doctorate degree at the University of Nebraska. friends and drove around town, throwing out some of the contents of the Lexus during their trip. That afternoon, Klingler parked the car about two blocks from where she took it and Bodworth took the car.

The next day, Benjamin Johnson drove the car, lost control and hit a tree, according to the order. Endacott ruled that Johnson was liable because he admitted during the trial that he took the car with no authority to do so, then lost control And although Klingler wasn't in the car when it crashed, she was the one who originally took it and then let Bodworth take it, telling him to return it to the church parking lot when he was done. She also talked with Johnson about the car. Those conversations set up a conspiracy between the three to illegally use the car, Endacott said. But under state law, which says that parents should be held liable for the willful and intentional destruction of property by their minor children who live with them, these parents aren't liable since there wasn't any evidence that the teens meant to damage the Lexus, Endacott said.

Endacott ordered both Klingler and Johnson to pay a total of $14,968. Two teens who smashed a 1992 Lexus into a tree after going for a joyride must pay the car's owner nearly $15,000 in damages, a Lancaster County District Court judge has ruled. But Judge Donald Endacott decided in a ruling this week that the parents of the two former Northeast High School students were not responsible for damages caused to the car because the teens didn't mean to crash, O'Hara Associates, which owned the car, sued the teens who drove the car and their parents. The case went to trial against Shannon Klingler, Benjamin S. Johnson and their parents, George and Patty Klingler and Laura Gaiter.

A third teen involved, Adam Bod-worth, was dismissed from the lawsuit after his insurance paid for some of the damages, said attorney Patrick Healey, who represented the owner of the car. The lawsuit stemmed from the activities of the teens in March 1996 when they decided to skip classes at Northeast and came upon a 1992 Lexus parked with the engine running near the school in a church parking lot. Shannon Klingler and two of her friends got inside the unlocked car and took it for a drive, Endacott's order said. They picked up other MM Expect all three at Speidell Monuments. Now soft sounds are tod soft again! Think of it like sleeping with a blanket that covers you from toes to your middle. When your chest gets cold you pull up the blanket and your toes freeze. After that its all compromises. Manual volume control is a compromise control. Fortunately new technology in the form of digital and digitally programmable hearing aids have solved the compromise problem.

These hearing instruments can automatically adjust the volume for you without you even noticing it. Soft sounds are soft but audible, normal sounds are comfortable and loud sounds are loud but never uncomfortable. People who have these hearing aids hear much better and more comfortably than folks with old technology. If you or someone in your family might benefit from new hearing aid technology, please call for a complementary no obligation demonstration.
