(Continued from page 14) Shoes were not enclosed in the packages since the Red Cross planned to supply the children with them. The Legion women, jealous of every ounce of shipping weight, were pleased over. this. "Our boxes were beautiful," Mrs. Newberry said yesterday.

"All of the things a were sent were selected the idea oE pleasing these children as well as helping them." Children Express Thanks When the ship with the gil'ts for the children of St. Die arrived in France, all of the children were brought together and the boxes given them as their names were called. "Dear Benefactors: It was with great pleasure that I opened your beautiful package," Bernard since has written the 8th district Auxiliary. ''You almost spoil me. My parents also are very happy about all the beautiful clothing.

You are truly kind. I would much prefer to thank you in person but unfortunately there are too many thousands of miles separating us so I shall this letter with all my gratitude and, if I may, with my biggest kisses. From a little boy of the martyred city Saint Die, Bernard Thirion." through her sister, who could write English, said: "I want to thank you; you are by Hugette, who wrote that her family consisted of a mother, a father, who is a contractor, her sister, Micheline, and herself. "Now we live in Nancy in Lorraine, because the city of Saint Die is burnt. Prior to the war we were at St.

Die 'the good mother of the child said. Hugette had to rest in the cellar pendent two months. She was very a a i when the bombs fell. "On the first of December there came the by the soldiers of America. We were very happy," the Ijttle French said.

"We have seen in the book of geography, Jefferson City in the Missouri." In closing, the Auxiliary was told "We thank you and salute you." The care of the two children will also be continued by the Auxiliary until such time as it is no longer needed. Energetic Mrs. Newberry is thinking now of other things a may be needed by the youngsters, since spring is here. So one day not too far off a 11 pound box will probably be placed on a train at the Missouri Pacific depot and when it is taken off of a boat in France and placed in the hands of a little boy and girl, it will have more of the things a they both want and need. But whether those who receive will be as happy as these women of the Legion who gfivc is going to be really hard to decide.
