Give to the Dorcas Society. A few days since the HURONITE urged the people of the city having articles of clothing that they were willing to donate to the needy, to send the same to some member of the Dorcas society, or make it known and they would be called for. The suggestion was heeded by many, but some failed to see the notice, or see- ing it failed to comply with the re- quest, It is a fact that certain peo- ple are canvassing the city soliciting cast off clothing, who do not need it and are not worthy of it. Here is an instance: Some days since a party living in the northeast part of the city called at a number of private residences and obtained a very large amount of clothing, more than the entire family could use even if in destitute circum- stances. This clothing was sorted over, the best suits selected and some sold for $5 a suit.

A needy family living in another part of the city were the purchasers. Other instances similar to the above could be noted and name given, but it is hoped this one will sufficient. If you have anything to give, give it to the Dorcas society. It wil" then go to those deserving aid. State of Ohio, City of Toledo.

There was a large attendance and the pupil are much interested in their work. Within the last two weeks the labor bureau, connected with the school, has secured employ- ment for eight girls. Dr. Larkin gave the young ladies a very fine and instructive lecture on respiration, and brought cuts to illustrate and make plain her points. She brought a pair of sheeps lungs and caused them to be inflated and made the evils of tight lacing very apparent.

She recommended the Mrs. Jenness Mil- ler dress reform, which is new, pretty and graceful as well as healthful. A vote of thanks was given to the doc- tor and by motion she was made an honorary member of the school. On next Tuesday evening dress reform will be the topic of conversation, and there will be magazines and patterns on exhibition. 7itf Hunting J. Rabbit. A friend hands the city editor the following, which will be found inter eating to J. W. Campbell, Horace Comfort, J.

W. Bailey and others who delight in hunting jack rabbits The ordinary dog cannot overtake the jack rabbit, even if fired at him from a cannon. But the imported grayhound can overtake the rabbit. Chasing jack rabbits over the level prames of South Dakota is great aport. The hunters are on horse back, that is, part of the time.

If the horse stumbles or puts his foot in a prairie-dog hole, it is difficult to say for a brief moment which is really the rider. The horse is a noble ani- mal, but his place is not on the riders' stomach, Of course the rider does not suspend publication and go out of the business every time the horse falls. He usually ceases to regard coursing jack rabbits as a pastime when the horse falls the first time. In concluding this sketch of the ja'ck rabbit, it may be mentioned that his tail is short. A southern Tennyson has embalmed this important fact in deathless verse, turning on the divine afflatus as follows: Coon has got a bushy tail, 'Possum's tail am bar', Jack rabbit's got no tail at all, 'Ceptin' a little bnnch of ha'r.

The material of the rabeit's tail is not, strickly speaking, hair, but it is more like hair than the wool of the African, which is called hair, on a complimentary Sittings. AN immense codfish adorns the jntramce to the grocery house of Wm. L. Blies on Dakota avenue. It weighs over 20 pounds.
