He referred to his delight at being present and witnessing the deliberations of the first republican county convention to nominate men to represent the county in the lirst republican convention for the new state of South Dakota, and followed with a few remarks respecting the prospects of South Dakota, the work of the republican party in the past, and what it will accomplish in the future. His remarks were received with hearty applause. I A Carl D. Foster of the credentials committee read the report of the com- mittee, which was, on motion of Mr. Sterling, adopted and the committee discharged.

The report showed that each of the thirty-five townships of the county, including the four wards of the city of Huron, had full delegations present.
