station a huge boulder about ten feet long four feet wide and three feet thick rolled down the hillside toward the train The engine cleared the cbstruc tion but the steps and hand rails on the coaches over the rail way to West Lebanon where interment was made r) MRS JAMES HOUSEHOLDER Mrs Laura Householder wife of James Householder of Penn Run died bn March 21 of tuberculosis aged 43 years three months and 27 days She had been ill a long time but bore her suffering with greet patience She is survived by her husband and two daughters Elsie and Edna also her aged father Richard McGaughey and sister Maggie McGaughey uneral services were held on Sunday in the Methodist Episcopal church of which she was a member by Rev William Sproull assisted by Rev McCormick Interment was made in the Brethren cemetery MISS MARGARET HARVEY Miss Maigaret Harvey aged 52 years Court News The time of the court last week was largely consumed in the trial of land cases Early in the week the case of Mrs Minnie Stephens against the Cam bria Indiana Railroad company was tried This was an appeal from the award of viewers who assessed damages sustained by the plaintiff by the con struction of the railroad through her farm The jury was taken to the Ste phens farm and viewed the property af fected The trial consumed three days and riday morning the jury returned a verdict awarding damages in the sum of $3456 to the plaintiff The case of John Martz against the Conemaugh Coal company was put on trial on Thursday Mr Martz sued for damages done his farm by the opera tions of the defendant company Quite a number of witnesses were called On Wednesday of last week Sheriff George Jeffries took the following prisoners away to begin the serving of their sentences: Leo Thompson' inde terminate sentences of from three to five years in the Western penitentiary John Koval indeterminate sentence of from one to two years in the Western A Board of Directors Make a Splendid Every Bill HasBeen Paid At a meeting held in the Court Honse Saturday night the board of hectors of the Young Christian association heard a financial report from the treas urer A Mabon which was mpst as suring It showed that at this time the association does not owe a dollar every bill having been paid The directors have persistently followed the plan of keeping out of cebt and the work of erecting the new building has been pushed only as fast as there have been funds available for paying for it The building committee reported that the plastering was completed last week Andrew Muller and Stuchell hav ing made a very satisfactory job of it The time when the building will be fini hed is dependent almost entirely upon the subscribers who have not yet paid their subscriptions More than $9000 is yet to be paid and the work of completing the structure will proceed in proportion to the speed with which out standing subscriptions are paid The collector Dr William Hosack is still at work it is urged that nil unpaid subscriptions be handed to him as soon as possible or they may be left at lhe bank where receipts will be given £even directors to serve for a term of three years are to be chosen at the an nual railroad between New Castle and Pittsburg trains for Buffalo were routed via Blairs ville to Josephine over the Pennsylvania railroad Buffalo Rochester Pittsburg via Indiana and Punxsutawney to alls Creek Pennsylyania railroad to Brook ville Lake Shore to Oil City and thence by the Pennsylvania railroad to Buffalo NY The same routing reversed was used with the trains from Buffalo to Pittsburg The illness of five days aged 64 years She was born in this county September 28 1848 Her husband Samuel Hoover who was a prominent farmer died thirty years ago Her only daughter Mrs Miles Neff lived with her on the farm where he died The funeral services were held riday morning conducted by Rev Olaney pastor of the Smicksburg Lutheran church Inter ment was made in the Lutheran ceme tery' at that place 1 RICHARD LEWIS Richard Park Lewis the eldest son of Mr and Mrs Lbwis of Pittsburgh died at a hospital in that city Wednes day evening at 6 aged 14 years having undergone a mastoid operation the previous Saturday The funeral services were held at the Lewis home riday evening and the body was brought to Blairsville Saturday and in terment made in the Blairsville ceme tery at 2 Mr and Mrs Lewis of Indiana were the grandpar ents of the deceased MRS MARTHA SHANK Mrs Martha shank aged 76 years the widow of Levi Shaukdied at her home in Penn Run Wednesday evening March 26 at 7:30 Death was dug 2 have probably had a happy hristmas season at least I hope you ave We have not had a good mail for jiur months or more and do not know hen we shall have one No Christmas Aailyet You may be able to imagineow one feels at Christmas time out ere with no mail from friends at home to knowledge of who was elected pres pent etc We are all well and while hut away from some of the things you re enjoying at home still we are glad be filling one of the many breaches on he battle front WILLIAM HENRY We have received the following notice of the death of William Henry of Le compton Kan from John Johnston of Newton Kan who was born and raised in Oherryhill township this coun ty and served in the Civil war as a member of Captain Jacob compa ny A 61st regiment Pennsylvania Vol unteer Infantry and who left Indiana in March 1871 "William Henry aged 77 years 1 month and 10 days died last week at Lecompton Kan He was of German parentage and was born in Indiana county Pa In 1858 he was united in marriage to Miss Jane Clarke Kirk of Indiana county Pa Of this union two children were born both of whom are still living They are Henry of Big Springs and Mrs Prince of El Reno Okla In November 1868 he moved to Kansas where his wife died June 17 1873 On April 2 1874 he married Raohail Catharine Hickox 'To them were born two children Prry and William both of whom are dead He served throughout the Civil war in the department of the Union army During this time he served under Xjenerals Kosencrans Grant and Sheridan He was in com mand of the ammunition corps under Grant at the battle of Vicksburg and had charge of the ambulance train un der Sheridan at the battle of Winches ter With the exception of five years spent in Topeka Kan he had been a resident of Lecompton township for 45 years He is survived by his second wife two children nine grandchildren and three great 1 MRS BARBARA STADTMILLER Mrs Barbara Rising Stadtiniller aged 55 years died at her home on North ifth Sunday night at 10:30 Death was due to apoplexy The daughter of Mr and Mrs Martin Rising the deceased was born and raised in Rayne township 'She was married to Mr Stadtiniller in September 1870 She leaves these children: George of Johnstown Mrs rank Ploizer Mrs William O'Hara of Indiana Martin of Ypsila' ti Mich Mrs Ella Helman of Rayne township Mrs Clyde Wine of Wilkinsburg and Joseph John and Misses Anna and Bertha at heme These brothers and sisters also survive: Mrs Susannah Basinger Mrs George Groft of Indiana Joseph Rising of Rayne township and Benjamin Rising of Tulare Calif Requiem High Mass was conducted by the Rev ather McNelis in St Roman Cath olic church this Wednesday morning at 9 :30 The interment was made inSt cemetery MISS AMANDA" SUTOR Miss Amanda Sutor aged 62 years and 10 months daughter of the late Alexander and Jane Park Sutor of East Mahoning township died at the State hospital at Warren Wednesday of last wpplr nf tonhoiri fpvpr She united with the Presbyterian church at Marion Oen The remains were brought on a special ter under the pastorate ot Rev Jonu Carothers when a young woman and lived a consistent Christian life always ready to help in time of need in the homes of brothers and sisters cousins neighbors and friends always kind and gentle with little children a very sec ond mother with counsel and quotations from scripture in which she was well versed Interment was made in Marion Center cemetery Saturday MISS ELLA ALCORN Miss Ella Alcorn died at her home in Saltsburg on Sabbath evening March 23 at 11 30 death being due to paralysis She was one of the best known residents of Saltsburg and for years had been a member of the firm cf Alcorn Co dry goods and groceries of Saltsburg She leaves four sisters and' one brother Mrs Me Ilwain Mrs A Barker Miss Al corn all of Saltsburg Mrs I Cline of Greensburg and Edwaid Alcorn at home uneral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 by the Rev George Ryall pastor of the Saltsburg Presbyterian church The interment was made in Edgewood cem etery.
