Mr Llndon as Rev Martin Preston, carried that part to perfection, and Carrie Anderson as Mrs Royal, could not be excelled by any one. Fred Sawyer, Glen Chase, Ella Masoa and Battle Neville also deserve special mention, and In fact It would only do justice to make mention of each char acter, as the acting ot all was excellent. TOSIOHT. The Frank Llndon company appear tonight in the great five act nautical drama entitled "Tbe 8ea ot Ice," withspecial scenery, cos tames snd stage settings. MATINEE At the matinee "The Duke's Motto" will be performed for the special benefit of tbe ladles and children, usual matinee prices.

LAST XIGHT'fl PLAT. One of the largest and most fashionable audiences ever gathered In tbe Funke wit nessed the production last night of "As In Looking Glass." Mrs Langrty, while celebrated as a beauty, has never been given much credit as possessing the artistic Instinct, but these who saw her In the role ot Lena Des- pard last evening, will agree that she lacks but little In dramatic talent talent, too, of high order. The ro(e she assumes Is a dlffl cult one; but whether as the blase woman of the world, enticing men to her side by her blandishments, the charming creature who goes Into ecstacies over breaking the banks at Monte Carlo, or as the devoted wife of the man she loves, and for whom she dies-through it all she Is a woman, with the vague subtleties, the finer feelings of a woman nature. It was a charming piece ot work, and places Mrs. Langtry higher than ever in the hearts of her auditors.

Her support was rather Indifferent, Chas Coghlan as Captain Jack Fortlnbras, and Frederick Ervllle as Count Dromiroff alone being deserving of special mention. EILABITT. The eccentric German commedlan, Mr Chas A Lowder, supported by Miss Daisy Stanwood and a fine company ot comedians, will present the new farce comedy of "Hilarity" at the Funke Saturday evening. "Hilarity," ks the name indicates, Is built for laughing purposes, being ot the Boyt Older of plays. Herman Balmer, the character which Mr Loder plays, Is one of the funniest Dutchmen on the stage, being eccentric without being wearisome.

HAOaiE MITCHELL. Next Tuesdsy evening her many admirers in in is city win nave tne pleasure or once more seeing the crowned queen of soubrettea. Considerable Mystery Surround- ing the Accident. DEATH Of TBI VICTIM OF THI VAL PARAISO BHOOTLXti. Taw Comet tow" Cam- PJaw. Killed by tha Car. The mangled fragments of what once was a man, but ground out of all semblance of humanity, were brought to Lincoln this morning and taken to Undertaker Beaton's rooms to be prepared for It is what once waa Gas Kldwell and be was run over by a freight train two miles this side of Malcolm last night So far as can be ascertained the facts are as Kldwell baa been working on the Dr.

Converse farm near Malcolm for several months. Yesterday they brought In a lot of eattie from there and he came along to help drive tbem. When the others started home he did not go along but later rode out with a neighbor leading his pony behind tbe wagon. Wht-e aear home Kldwell got out and got oa bis puny while the neighbor went, on borne. This waa the last seen of Kldwell alive.

Shortly after the pony came home riderless. This was about dusk. Shortly afterward freight train No. 48 on the B. AM- came along there aad ran over something on the crossing.

They were not certain what it was but stopped as soon as they could and found that It was the body of a man. They took It back to Malcolm where It waa subsequently found who It was. The body from the hips up was cut all to pieces making a horrible sight It to not known how be came onto the cross ing but it Is surmised that his pony threw him aa he was crossing the track and that he wm so stunned tbst he lay there till the train came along and ran over him. It is thought tbe pony was home before tbe train came along. He badVobably been drinking a little jeforc leaving town but was not intoxicated.

Not very much is known about him but a letter wu found in his pocket from Martelle, Jones from his mother who fx-piessed pleasure at having lust received a good letter from him, the first in a couple ot months. She spoke of the woric Indicating that tbey lived on a farm and mentioned sev ers! other members of tbe family. Dr. Con 7erse describes him as a fine energetic oung fellow and a good hand. It is learned that the JUdwcil lamilv were former realdents of Lincoln and moved back to Iowa about two years ago.

Coroner Shoemaker Is investigating but will probably hold no inquest. No arrangements lor the funeral have yet been made as they are waiting to hear from tbe friends. The "Comet' Causes IU Feeling. "I wish the News would say for us," said a well known Irishman and Catholic, "that there are many people connected with our church who feel hurt by the course of the editor of the little advertising sheet called The Comet," which Is Issued In connection with the fair. Eight of the most prominent advertisements In it are saloon advertisements, and In the editorial column people are ad vised to read all the advertisements and to patronize tbe men who advertise and to keep the paper as a guide to the proper places to go after tbe fair la over.

This is nothing less than direct advice to patronize the saloons, and what makes it worse is that It comes from the clergy, and much the same advice was given from the altar last Sunday, be. lieve a majority of "the church people disapprove ot such advertisements snd such advice in connection with this church fair, and as we have no other way of voicing our sentiments we wish you would say that we do not en dorse it." CampaJgw Fun. A good Joke Is told on I Lansing of this city and Thurston of Omaha. They have been campaigning together a little this fall and were at Wahoo to address a big rally a few nights ago. Thurston insisted that ban sing should speak first contrary to the letter's desire and he determined to get even.

Be went to telling stoiles and kept It up until he had told not only all hi own beat Jokes, but all he bad heard Thurston use this cam paign. Be kept the crowd In a continual laugh for an hoar or more and left Thursto a without a single ready-made Joke to fire Into them. When the great orator got up be was conscious of the trick Lansing had been working on him, and with magnificent gesture and resonant voice, for which he is famous he began! "Fellow citizens, this Is no time for Idle stories or silly mirth. The Issues that press upon us are so mighty as to demand the most serious consideration ot every patriotic citizen In the land," and he went on to discuss tbem without a smile in the whole address. The Joke was then partly on Lansing, as It gave the Impression that he was a clown, but Thurston went to Peoria, 111.

In a da or two for a big speech, and when the papers came from there with reports of It, Lansing found that Thurston had given the Innocent suckers every last one of his best stories, not even omitting his celebrated canary bird named Grover, Follce Work, Monday evening Ellas Bhlnn stepped out into the rear of the so loon known as Fred A Joe's on 9th street and was knocked down nil mhfiMl nf gin Ha AMArfheri hi. ants as two youngcolored men whom he knew, RE Smith and Al Williams, Before he got out a warrant however Smith was run In as a drunk.
