Philadelphia street Mr LeVine proprietor of the Dye Works will conduct his business in the rooms now occupied by the Ohinesp Laundry on North Seventh street and the laundry will be removed to the building now occupied the' Lowry Printing company on North Eighth street Mr Lowry has not yet decided where he will go having several loca tions in view The Progressive Club Meets The Progressive club which meets in the room above the ree Reading room held their weekly meeting Thursday evening At the request of some of the ladies there was a lesson in practical cookery The lecture was delivered by afternoon for an rays examination Mr many friends hope that this may be the means of aiding in Bucceseful'treatment and so hasten his recovery He was accompa nied by his wife his sister in law Miss Ida Gailey superintendent of the Bellevue institution and Miss May Griffen of Pittsburg one of the two nurses who so faithfully attended him during his illness here Mr Earhart stood the trip very well riends of Game lo Organize A meeting has been called by the local hunters for all hunters farmers and othr persons interested in the wild life of Indiana county to come together in the Court House at Indiana riday eve ning ebruary 12 for the purpose of organizing a county association for the protection and propagation of game and fish in the county as well as protect the song and insectivorous birds Indiana county pays into the state a large amount of license money and supports a large number from other counties who hunt in it and is entitled to its share of the expenditures of the state foods It is understood that the State Game Commission has already ar ranged for the purchase of 30000 quail and fully as many rabbits in addition to many smaller numbers of pinnated grouse Hungarian quail and Mongolian pheasants Arrangements have also been made for the release of a large number of fallow deer and another herd of Michigan deer Claim has already been made by rep resentatives of Indiana county for a share of the animals and birds as well as wild turkey eggs but it will be ne cessary for a county organization to ar range for the distribution and protecting of the same while being established Other counties have already perfected their organizations and have matters in good working order It is hoped that every township in the county will be represented at the meet ing as it is not a local affair and is the first move of the kind in the right di rection This is intended for the farm er as well as others and each member is required to sign a pledge agreeing to obey the game fish and forestry laws is well as the laws protecting song and insectivorous birds and to use his means to enforce these laws as well as respect the lights of person and property of landowners HoiiNe Efforts to have a farm bureau organ ized for Indiana county will be made at a meeting to be held in the court house on ebruary 13 at 1 :30 The principal speaker ot the meeting will be Hibham of Pennsylvania State College It is planned to take such action at this meeting as to be readv for asking for an appropriation for the hiring of an expert farmer for this Through an act of the legislature the County Commissioners are authorized to advance a certain turn ot money yearly to be used in paying the salary of a arm Expert and it is expected that as a result of the ebruary meeting the commissioners will be called upon to ex ercise their privilege in that respect The arm Expert should definite act ion be taken would be an accredited graduate of State College and one who has a thorough knowledge of farming and the principles to be used in making farming pay Indiana county has a host of good farmers but quite often there are certain matters come up that the wisdom and resi dence in Clymer ire on Neliool Street 'The fire alarm was sounded at 7:15 on Monday morning and the firemen were called to the home of William Shields on School street between Eleventh and Twelfth streets ire had started in the rear room on the second floor and was soon gotten under control and every piece of furniture was removed to safe ty The flames broke out the second time and when the firemen arrived the house was in flames and within a short time the blackened walls were all that were left ot an old landmark having been used as the ticket office at the en trance to the old High School was concerned was an event at the public schools riday morning when seventeen members of lithe eighth grade class' having shown their fitness by tests entered the resh man class of the High School The mid year promotions in tne grades took place riday afternoon Tne purpose ot the mid year promo tions is two fold irst it enabled those who can take the work faster than the grade permits a chance to do higuer work in another grade or completing three work in two Second it gives another opportunity for those who failed in the first half work to re peat the conrse of study that has just been done instead ot waiting until next year when a whole work would have to be repeated A Public Meeting A public meeting of all those interest ed in the development of the new Indi ana hospital is to be held the Munici pal build'ng Thursday afternoon eb ruary 18 at 3 ock The purpose of this gathering is to enroll a membership to an hospital auxiliary All men and women of the town and county are urged to be present Men and women wishing to ba admitted to membership upon a non working basis may be en rolled as honorary members Some interesting statistics in regard to the progress of the hospital will be pre sented by the superintendent Miss Morgart Upon dedication the Indiana hospital was presented by Mr Adrian Iselin and bis sister Miss Georgine Iselin to the people of Indiana county It is hoped that a patriot pride in our public in stitutions as well as a desire to do a practical Christian service will influence the town and countj people to have a large week In an address to the convention on Thursday evening Governor Brumbaush assured the directors from all parts of i the state that they could count upon his co operation on all legislation for the good of the children but that he would veto any bills which he thought would interfere with the progress of education The governor intimated that he desired the school code to have a thorough trial ths ccurse of his remarks the govern or said that he admired the school direc tor who had the courage to levy an extra mill of tax to hold a good teacher or to meet necessary expenses for the ad officially and not to think about chances ot re election Clyde Carney Iletiiiel Clyde Carney aed 26 of Centerville West Wheaifield township who since January 18 has been a prisoner in the county jail charged with the shooting of Mrs David Shilling of Wheatfield Buffington township was positively identified by Mrs Shilling who ct me to Indiana for that purpose' Wednesday Carney has denied that he was implica ted in any way tn the shooting but his actions when confronted by Mrs Shill ing tends to disprove this statement The young man will be tried at the March term of court on a charge of as brought face to face with Carney and declared in a firm voice That is the Carney had little to say following the jbut declared that he could not under stand why Mrs Shilling did not recog nize him on her first visit to the jail but was so confident he was the guilty man upon the second inspection Mrs Shilling was but recently dis from a Johnstown hospital where she had been confined since the" day
