Hamann, 69, of Walcott, Iowa, died on Saturday, March 7, 2009. He was born October 21, 1939, the son of LeRoy and Alice (Ruehmann) Hamann in Davenport. He married Doris V. Lilienthal on November 11, 1961, in Davenport. He was a member of Wahkonsa Country" Club, the Iowa State Rifle Pistol Association and was a Benefactor member of the NRA.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, his son Paul of Walcott, Iowa, his daughter Jane (Bill) Graesser of Middle Amana, Iowa, and his brother Delmar (Shirley) Hamann of Brookfield, Wis. She retired from the Arsenal where she was a secretary comptroller for seven years. She was a member of Newcomb Presbyterian Church, Rebecca Circle, and enjoyed bowling, golfing, gardening and yardwork.

She also was a member of the Genesis Auxiliary. Those left to honor her memory include her sons, Ronald (Michelle) Leedham, Montgomery, 111., and Bruce (Maureen) Leedham, Davenport; grandchildren, Casey and Patrick, both of Davenport, Matthew and Elizabeth, Montgomery, 111. Winston) Smith, 90, of rural DeWitt, died March 7, 2009, at Genesis Medical Center DeWitt. Esther Bertha Hallgren was born October 20, 1918, in Villa Nova, Iowa, to Carl "David" and Malinda (Otto) Hallgren. Esther married Winston Smith on April 7, 1942, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound. She was a nurse's aide retiring from the DeWitt Community Hospital. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound, and a 25 year Los Angeles Times Sydney Chaplin, an actor who experienced his greatest success on stage, earning a Tony Award for starring in the 1950s musical "Bells Are Ringing," died Tuesday.

He was 82. 'Chaplin, the oldest surviving child of film legend Charlie Chaplin, died at his Rancho Mirage home of complications following a stroke, said Jerry Bodie, a longtime friend. He was the second son of Charlie Chaplin and his second wife, Lita Grey, an ingenue who married the movie giant when she was 16 and he was 35. Their marriage ended when Sydney was 1 year old in a sensational divorce that made headlines. Sydney Chaplin said that he was a veteran of World War II before he really came to know his work-obsessed movie star father.

"He was a strange man," Chaplin told People magazine in 1989. "He had great difficulty expressing his feelings to me, which was odd because he expressed emotion on screen so mar-velously." Discharged from the Army, Chaplin was persuaded by a friend to try acting. In 1946, he co-founded the Circle Theater in Los Angeles that developed a reputation for quality productions. His father eventually directed Chaplin in several stage projects. "Once my father saw I was taking this acting stuff seriously, he gave me my first movie job, as the young composer in a 1952 film, Sydney told People.

"He simply called me one day and said, 'I've written a new picture and I've written a role for Chaplin said in 2003 in the Detroit Free Press. Sydney Chaplin also appeared in "A Countess From Hong Kong," the 1967 film that was his father's last as a director. Allen was married to Isabel Mammosser and they later divorced. Allen then married WynnettaThomasson on February 2, 1940, in Dubuque, Iowa. She preceded him in death on November 9, 1994. Allen worked as a farmer most of his life. He also ran the Pleasant Valley Store and worked in the Stockton Country Store.

He retired from Ackers Implement where he worked on farm equipment. Allen is survived by four sons, Clyde (Rosalind) Boyer of Savanna, 111., F. Eugene (Betty) Boyer of Mt. Carroll, 111., Milo Boyer of Stockton, 111. and Bud Boyer of Freeport, two daughters, Janice (Bob Brinkmeier) Boyer of Freeport, and Joyce (Gene) Brinker of Warren, 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Wyn-netta; one son, Dale Boyer; one grandchild, and one great -grandchild. John S. Fisher ALEDO, 111. John S. Fisher, 83, of rural Aledo, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, March 5, 2009.

Glen Freeman FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Glen Freeman, 58, of Fayetteville died Friday, March 6, 2009, in -imimm I Ark. Freeman He was born Decem ber 1, 1950, in Sikeston, the son of J.C. and Beulah Wise Freeman. He was a retired truck driver.

He was a lovipg husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Harold Wayne Freeman and a grandson, Austin Daniel Freeman. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Karla Freeman; one son, Daniel Freeman and wife Jenny of Silvis, three daughters, Laura Freeman of Fayetteville, Marci Gutierrez and hus -band Saul of Davenport, Deanna Portwood of Fayetteville; three brothers, Charles William "Sonny" Freeman and wife Erma of Marble Hill, Marvin Eugene Freeman and wife Dora of Fayetteville John Calvin "Jack" Freeman and wife Patricia of Fayetteville; one sister, Dora Elizabeth Davis and husband Etsel of Indianapolis, 16 grandchildren. Services wDl be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Moore's Chapel.

He auditioned as many as 15 times before landing the part of Jeff Moss, who falls in love with the switchboard operator, played by Holliday. His other major Broadway success came in the original production of "Funny Girl" opposite Bar-bra Streisand. He played the gangster boyfriend Nick Arnsteinto Streisand's Fanny Brice. Both actors received Tony nominations for their performances in the musical -the last of his five roles on Broadway but feuded, and he left the show. After Omar Sharif was cast as Arnstein in the 1968 film version of "Funny Girl," Chaplin said he found himself curiously undisap-poirited.

He realized that he "never had the burning desire for recognition and respect that had driven my father," he said in 2003 in the Detroit Free Press. "But then I never had to dance on the streets of London for pennies to stay alive," as his father once did. Sydney Earl Chaplin was born March 30, 1926, in a Beverly Hills mansion and was named for his father's older half brother, Sydney, who helped launch Charlie Chaplin's career. His film and television career stretched to the late 1970s, and he appeared in more than 35 projects. He had matinee -idol looks and often ended up in romances with his co-stars.

In addition to his son, Chaplin is survived by Margaret Beebe Chaplin, whom he married in 1998; actress Geraldine Chaplin and sevenother half-siblings; and a granddaughter. released in 1968, marked Samperi's directorial debut at age 24. The movie "translated the anxiety and unrest of the time into an accessible movie," film critic Fabio Ferzetti wrote in II Messag-gero newspaper Thursday. Samperi's biggest success came a few years later, with "Malizia" which turned Italian actress Laura Antonelli into an erotic icon, thanks to her role as a sexy, socially climbing maid. The 1973 movie was seen as scandalous but was also a commercial hit and became a cultural sensation.

Born in the northeastern Italian city of Padua, Samperi briefly studied literature and philosophy before turning to cinema. His career also included flops, including a sequel to "Mai -izia," made about 20 years after the original. Samperi had failed to score a success for many years, and recently he had worked primarily for TV. Samperi is survived by his wife and a son. A funeral is scheduled fo Friday, his brother said.

Bob was born August 22, 1929 in Clintonville, the son of Clement and Dora Weyenberg Hogan. He married Fayne Poquette on October 1, 1949, in Rock Island.

Mr. Hogan was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War on the Aircraft Carrier USS Roosevelt. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service, Moline, in 1988 after 40 years.

Bob was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church and former member of the Alleman Booster Club. He enjoyed polka music and playing the concertina. In his retirement years he enjoyed bike rides along the Ben Butterworth Parkway and working in his yard. Survivors include his wife, Fayne; daughter, LuAnn Hogan, Rock Island; sons- and daughter-in-law, Michael, Minneapolis, Minn, and Dr.

Daniel and Rhonda Hogan, Rock Island; grandchildren, Connor, Carh, Lauren and Brenna; sister, June (Daniel) Krakosky, Ramsey, N.J.', and four nephews. Samperi died Wednesday, said his brother Jadran Samperi, declining to give the cause of the death. The director died in his house on Lake Bracciano, about 30 miles north of Rome, according to the ANSA news agency.

Samperi's movies offered a social critique of the Italian bourgeoisie, often through the lens of sex. Critics say his best works explored the forbidden pas -sions and relationships within middle-class families as a way to show what he saw as their decadence and hypocrisy. In what is considered by many critics his best movie, "Grazie, Zia" You, Samperi tells the story of a rich young man who engages in a sexually charged relationship with his aunt movie,.
