i We Lead in QUALITY AND PRICES OTHEES; FOLLQ-W. CIRCUIT COURT. Josh Mathews Lose Bis Life at the Hands of One Major Bell-A Pistol Does the Work, MATHEWS IS DEAD, BELL IS AT LARGE. Saturday night about 12 o'clock John Mathews was shot by one Major Bell, and Mathews is dead, The murder was done -near the Union Hall on the Southsido. Josh was drinking but was an inoffensive colored man.

Bell, so fur as Tho Times can learn, was perfectly sober. Josh has lived here a long time. Bell was a turpentine hand or used to be. He came here from Smithville a year ago, his wife preceding him. He worked 011 the sanitary sewers some, time.

Some say he Is a gambler but The Times cannot get very certain information as to that. From John Thorton, a colored lad Tho Times gets this account of the shooting: He and Josh were en route home about mid night. When they reached a shop, just opposite Union Hall on the Dale road, they passed several negroes, about a half dozen. Major Bell was in the crowd. He stepped out from the others and wanted to know if the two travelers had change foradollor.

John did not have it. Josh only had 75 ceiits, he said. Josh Inquired who Major was, the night was dark. Major would not tell Josh said he would find out and Major grew angry. Josh approached him.

John, thinking there was to be a difficulty got out of the way. He passed on. He heard Bell tell Josh not to come any closer. Then he heard a shot. He did not turn back.

He went his way. That was all John knew. Josh fell over into the arms of some of the boys; shot just below the heart. The wound was mortal. He died early the nest morning.

Dr. Battle was sent for. He could do nothing. Josh told the Doctor he did not know who shot him that Freeman could tell him. Josh was pretty drunk.

He had on his person one half-pint bottle of whiskey and one other bottle of like size, but half used up. He had no weapon but a stick, a fair sized walking stick. The reporter looked for Freeman this morning but could not find him. Bell has not been captured. No iuquest was held but a warrant was issued from Justice Daniel's court To Make Room I am arranging to store away the negatives made by Messrs.

Holleman and Flour noy. There are several thousand of these and among them are negatives of almost every resident of Eufaula for many years. Many of the plates are fine and would print splendidly on new platinum paper either in the original size or in larger sizes for framing. Should you wish prints from any of these plates please let me know in the next few days. MOORE, Photographer.
