Bishop Creed returned yesterday from Ins in spection of the situation inFernandina, He finds that the towu is suffering not so much from actual yellow fever as from distress among people unable to secure work and consequently looking to the public for support.

The officials there think there are at least 3,000 peo pie likely to need immediate relief. Of this number about 930 are colored stevedores out of work, and they may cause trouble. They are the ones wto struck last summer and interfered with the "scabs" who took their places. On that occasion three companies of mili tia had to be scot to prevent a riot. On to-morrow, 18th, between the hours of Hand 12 o'clock, a. R. II Walker, superintendent of the Enfaula Water Works, will make grand display of the use and benefit of a good system of water works, such as now exist i in Eufaula. The display will be made at the intersection of Broad and Eufaula Streets, and for the amuse ment and interest of the Dale Exour-siouists, many of whom, no doubt, will be glad to witness and understand the operation of extinguishing fires in cities bavins good and effioicnt water works The comoany will bear all The expenses oi the display and make no charges, and it a quite liberal contribution toward intcrutining and amusing our visitors tomorrow. Six or eight horses are now in daily training for the races at the Fair Grounds to-morrow afternoon, and as the Times has before took occasion to remark will be interesting and exciting. The contest of speed will be by horses owned here the city, and is made solely to see which are the fastest horses and to amuse suoh of the visitors from the lower county as may admire fine and fast stock.

Tbere will be no gambling, the Times is informed, and it has certainly yet to hear of a bet on the result, Every-day Trains. Trains now go out on the Eufaula and Ozark railroad every day, including Sunday, leaving here at 4:05 p. and arriving next morning at 10:15, thus giving the people of Ozark and all along the lino an opportunity to spend about six hours in Eufaula and return home to spend the night. This schedule is most convenient aud acceptable to all parties in terested, and its. effects in enlivening trade and intercommunication between peoples who have loo; en friends and neighbors will soon be seen and felt.

Jack Haverly. Jack Haverly will be at Skillman's Siables Wednesday Ootober 17th. Fire Near White Pond. The residence of Mr. J.

O. Holley, who lives about a mile south of White Pond, in the southwest quarter of this. county, was totally destroyed by fire be tween 12 and 1 o'clock on Friday night lift, together with two of cotton that had been stored in the house. Mr, Holley is a most worthy and industrious young man, who has been married but ooe year and had built this home and gone to housekeeping. The bre is a sudden and great misfertnne to a man and wife just starting out in domestic life.

A Cutting Affray. A difficulty arose last afternooon be tween Bill Cameron and John Felton, negro men of this city, as to the posses-sion of a pomegranate, when Cameron became so enraged that he severely cut Felton about the breast and aim before they were separated, when Cameron made off and tried to escape. He was pursued, however, by the woutded man and two or three other negroes and 'ap-tnred and brought back. He will lie in ail till next Monday, when ha will be brought before the county court.
