Carpetland vice president Melvin Kemp said the firm "would respond favorably to annexation by Merrillville." The proposed building would be in unincorporated Ross Township. Carpetland plans to add a office building for corporate headquarters. Kemp said the firm's headquarters is at 8201 Calumet Munster, near the Munster retail outlet. That building would be renovated into showrooms, Kemp said. A warehouse also is in Carpetland's expansion plans for the next two years.

The firm purchased the 10 acres with the intention of expanding. Kemp said. The Allstate claims office is to be built at 9131 Broadway, in the Broadfield Center business park. The building is for at least four dentists who have an office in Gary and the Walsh Dental Clinic.
