Miller is visiting her son, Fred, this week in Auburn. Mrs. W. F. Moore, of Zlatcher, has been visiting her daughter, Mrs.

L. A. Rouse, for some time. We deeply sympathize with Mr. and Mrs.

Hutcheson over the loss of their baby last week. It was sick only a short time. Miss Pearle Still, of Hartford, a reader of wide reputation, hav ing recently returned from Boston and other large cities, will give an entertainment at the school house tonight (Thursday) for the benefit of the Woman's Home Mission Society of the Methodist church. The Mission Circle met with Mrs. Bowers and Miss Gussie Cawthon, Sunday afternoon, a good crowd being present.

Two new members were enrolled. All had a pleasant social hour as well as gathered new ideas and new thoughts. The Circle will give an ice cream festival soon. Business attended to the meeting adjourned to meet at the residence of Mrs. Gordon Williamson, two weeks from that time.

Sudden Death. The sad news was received here Monday of the death at Waukeenah, of Mr. Wooten, father of Mrs. W. F.

Hughes and Messrs. Simeon and Council Wooten and brother of Mrs. Ames. Mrs. Wooten, wife of the deceased was here on a visit to her daughter and sons at the time and had just been joined by another daughter, Mrs.

Hall, of Tallahassee, Fla. They all left on the early train Tuesday morning for the Florida town. Mr. Wooten was in his usual health when bis wife left home and the news of his sudden death was a sad blow to the fam ily gathered here to spend a few happy days The sym pathy of this entire community is extended to the bereaved family. L. Howell of Newton, was among the prospectors here this week. Mr. Henry Morgan of Ozark, has been spending a few days here the guest of his brother-in- law, Mr. W.

A. Hembey. Attorney J. D. BAILEY, of Florala, a A Destructive Cyclone.

Early last Monday morn ing a terrible cyclone passed about six or seven miles north of Milligan and did great damage to both life and property. The wake of the wind was from a quarter to a half mile wide and moved from southwest to northeast, sweeping every thing before it. The homes of Leonard Hilton, Senator John Wilkinson, Jas. M. Cobb, M.

R. Barrow, T. J. Faulk and and a Mr. Peacock were struck by the wind, and timber was blown down, houses were unroofed and wrecked and fences were blown away.

The homes of Messrs. Faulk and Peacock were almost completely destroyed. Every, member of Mr. Faulk's family received injuries, the oldest daughter being seriously if not mortally wounded by falling tim bers. Parties who have seen the sign of it say that great quantities of turpentine timber was destroy ed.

Whigham, proprietor of the Florala Hotel, shot a burglar who had entered his home, last Satu rday night. He stole a bowl and pitcher and was making off with it when the proprietor saw him and commanded him to stop, which he did not do and the contents of a shotgun, were emptied in the direction of the thief, who must have been hit as traces of blood were found. It was a negro man. possible candidate for Representative. New spring millinery opening at Hughes', Thursday night, Fri day and Saturday, April the 5th, 6th arid 7th.

A wreck was narrowly averted on the Yellow River R. train No. 12, by the presence of mind of Mr. H. S.

Field, of the firm of Justice P. Taylor Phila delphia, wholesale lumber mer chants. The engine was de tached from the train, endeavor ing to get a freight car from a siding to the main track. Just as they were pushing the car on to the main track Mr. Field had left the passenger coach to ob serve a small saw mill located near this switch.

He saw the crew was trying to push the cat- back and noticed tl.e switch was not open. The engine was pushing the car onto the main track when Mr. Field ran as quickly as possible snatched the lock from the switch-stand, threw the switch and saved the car from being thrown off the track, thus avoiding a broken switck and a delay of the train for an indefi-nate period.
