cit. 2 'Andy Burnett Series Begins 7r THIS IS one of few times mountain boy Andy Burnett ever takes bath during new Disneyland series to start next Wednesday evening. THESE A It N'T a couple of frontier bums, they're heroes in "The Saga of Andy Burnett." Shaven Jerome Courtland plays Andy, with shaggy Jeff York as Joe Crane. By STEVEN II. SCHEL'EK What, another Davy Crockett! Walt Disney has a mountaineer series coming up Wednesday on Disneyland called "The Saga of Andy Burnett," which he hopes will have the same effect on the nation as big Davy.

Andy is a strong, young mountain man of the 1820s. He can cipher, is mighty handy with a gun which once belonged to Daniel Boone and is like lightning with a knife. Like Davy. Andy had a song written for him, "The. Saga of Andy Burnett" by Thorn Blackburn, the fellow who wrote the Crockett hit.

With the song recorded and the gun and knife ready to be the next Ltep is to put Andy over. To play Andy, Walt found a 6-foot-5 leading man, Jerome Court-land, better known for his baritone voice, his former marriage to Polly Bergen, and his role of Dexter in the movie "Kiss and Tell." Strangely enough Jerome, born Courtland Jourolman grew up in the Blue Ridge country near Knoxville, and spent his time climbing mountains. sings just a little on the series. His problem is not to sound like a professional singer. So he compromised and tried to go slow.

"I've always been told my voice wasn't commercial," Jerome says. "I made one album and had to pay for it. I'm hoping this recording of Andy Burnett will do better." Besides his good looks, Disney must have been swayed by Jerome's athletic ability. There's a lot of fightin' and shootin' on this (two days were spent filming "one bar-room brawl), and Jerome looks as though he can take care of himself mixin' with co-star Jeff York, and former rodeo clown Slim Pickens. JEROME IS a hot shot archery man on the side.

He can snuff out a candle with an arrow at SO feet. The Disney publicity men are trying to figure out how a camera can photograph an arrow whizzing through a flame and not have it come out one small blur. One of Disney's electric cameras should do the trick. Courtland is also a skilled skin diver. He says he can go 70 feet deep without an aqualung and even considered trying for the world's record until a Frenchman raised the mark to the 134-foot level.

Jerome thinks he can dive 100 feet without any equipment. The man really likes it down there. AS A WOKKING actor he's plentv happy about this new series. "I'd rather do this series than any other on television," he says, "I mean it. Why out budget for just three shows is $600,000.

No other filmed TV show comes even close to that figure. Disney does it UP right." Jerome hasn't seen himself as Andy Burnett. He can't stand looking at himself on a screen. "I'm just not much of a fan of mine," he says. But he hopes the TV fans won't agree with him.
