9, 1899. OLD CITIZEN DEAD. "Benjamin Cawthon Passes Away At pit Country Home Funeral This Morning. Benjamin F. Cawthon at Wa home irear Dravo Station on the Southern railroad Sunday afternoon of a complication of diseases.

H. his wife and two sons having, died several years ago. His- body was brought to the home of W. H. Dulaney tn this otty yesterday morning, and the funeral will take place from the real, dence this morning at 10 o'clock.

He was able to see bis wife for a little while yesterday morning and told her ot the circumstances leading up to the negro's death, and his own narrow escape. He was standing at the bar when some one told him that a fight was In progress at Orrill's barber-shop. He Jumped across the bar and had lust reached the door of the saloon when the reports of the three shots rang out. When he reached the shop he found Murray struggling with Buckner and nothing but his prompt action succeeded in saving that i 1 Cr V.

NOTABLE IMPEOVEatENT IN ALL LINES OE 3USINESS. JOINT TICKET AGENCY. Trains on all the roads brought bun dreds of people to Louisville yester day for the races and May Festlval. The Joint ticket waa established yesterday at the Board of Trade, with John J. Telford and Frank Olmstead In charge.

The agency will serve as a bureau of Information pertaining to railroad matters. All persona wanting their tickets extended will ap ply to Mr. Telford. The agents of the local railroad lines are pleased over the heavy; passenger traffic to this city. Mr.

Telford said yesterday that there were already several thousand visitors In Louisville and the crowds bad not commenced to come. The Southern Baptist convention will be one of the biggest attractions of the month. said Mr. Telford. "I have received letters, from points, in the South stating that many merchants would take advantage of the low rates and come here to buy their goods.

Louisville wholesalers and retailers should do an unprecedented business. There will be a heavy traffic by ran and steamboat. It will probably be years before Louisville can offer another month as of attractions. R. S.
