There was a meeting of tbe officers and some of the members of the Pike County Veterans' Association last Saturday morn ing, President L. II. Bowles in the chair. Ie was decided to call a meeting of the Association in Troy on Thursday, July 17th, at which time there will be a grand basket dinner, to which all veterans and their families will be invited to come and bring baskets. On motion a committee of seven, three of whom are to be from Troy beat, and the other four from different sections of the county, was appointed as a general committee of arrangements to have charge of tbe matter, with power to appoint sub committees in tbe different beats to visit them.

On motion a committee, of which the president by resolution was named as chairman, was raised for the purpose oi investigating the subject of legislation, and to correspond with the state association in regard thereto, v'z U. Bowles, W. H. Barnett, T. M.

Murphree. President Bowles stated tbat tbe com' mittee on constitution and by laws, would be ready to report at the next meeting. On motion tbe ooinmitttee of arrange1 moots were directed to ascertain if there wore any confederate soldiers, or widows of sucb.In the county in need of assistance and report same at the meeting in Julv, at which time a collection will be taken up for their relief. Ua luesday a line was surveyed which deflects from tbe Midland at the Church street crossing and passes out between the old Uiggina and Cox residences on Love street, thence south passing just east of T. Owens' house and on through Buzzard Roost. We suppose the graders will soon be at work, Capt Pennington, of Troy, spent several days in town this week, and expressed himself as being ploased with Andalusia and her prospects. Mr. Clark was 70 years of age and for many yearj had been a consistent member of the Missionary Baptist church, and died in that faith. A sketch of him appeared in our Old Pooplo's column not very long sine. Mrs. Betsy Bryant, of Spring Hill beat, died at the home of her bod, Lorcnso Bryant, Wednesday night of last wees'.

She was one of the oldest ladies in this section and had resided in Pike for many years. A sketch of ber life appeared in our Old People's column but a short time ago. Mrs. Starke has bought out Mr. D.

The alliance people were very successful in the warfare they waged against jute last year, and a great quantity of the cotton baled in this state was in cotton bagging, A still more vigorous warfare is to be' waged against it this year, as can be seen from tbe following taken from recent pro eeedings of the Monroe county allianco We have reportB from nineteen sub-alliances demanding that arrangements be made for 25,230 yards ot cotton bagging for tbe coming season. We therefore reoommend that our county secrotary be instructed to writo to the business manager of the state exchange and ascertain what steps will be necessary to obtain a supply, and be notify each primary as soon as practicable the result of his investigations. We recommend further tbat those primaries that bave not sent up report on this matter, write at once to the oouoty secretary and give estimato of amount needed.

We recommend further that we reitorafe our determination to use oottoo bagging whon practicable to obtain it, to tbe entire exclusion of jute. Resolved, Tbat when membfrs can make other arrangements they will in no caso patronize publio gins where the owners uses himself or encourages tbe use of jute begging by keeping it to eupply others. court as witnesses in tbe case against the negro who attempted to burglarize the postoffice in this city last winter. Jernigan, F. L. Zim mermuno and L. II.

Jeter went to Brundidge last Friday and assisted in the re organization of tbe Brundidge masonic lodge. While they were there the E. A. degree was conferred on a candidate. Mr.

Charles Allred, a brother of our efficient depot agent and of Dr. Allred, has accepted a position at the depot with his brother. We are glad to have bim with us and hope that he will be pleased with his new borne. Dothan Sentinel. The Excursion.

The Editors will leave Troy on Saturday morning and the following will be the route of the excursion Leave Troy over tbe Alabama Midland and Savannah, Florida Western railroads for BrunBwiok on the morning of the 14th instant, and arrive at Brunswick the same evening. Remain at Brunswick until next morning and go to Cumberland and St. Simon's islands. Remain at these islands until 10 a. m.

Monday, the ICth instant. Leave for Fernandina and returo to Brunswick the same evening. Leave Brunswick at 8:20 m. the 17th instant aud arrive in Savannah at noon of tbe same dny. Leave Savannah at noon of the )8th instant and arrive in Americus at 9:30 p.

m. of the tamo day. Leave Amerious at LOG p. m. 19th instant, fur Montgomery, and arrive at 7 p.

m. of the same day. EXPENSES. Transportation throughout the itinerary will be free. The cities of Brunswiok, Savannah and Amerious will entertain the association.

Arrangements for reduced rates at Cumberland and St. Simon's island bave not yet been perfected. If free entertainment at these islands it not extended the association, very reduced rates of board will be eecured. The only sources of expense are meals en-route from one oity to another, hack hire and the hotel bills at Cumberland and St. Simon's.

The Central committee for the basket dinner of the Confederate Veterans Association have appointed the following committees in the different beats, to work up tbe matter. The committees should aee every old soldier and soldier's widow in tbe county and urge eaoh one to come and bring a basket. Tbe Association wants this to be the largest gathering ever seen in Pike county. The exact location bas not yet been determined, but it will be held at some one of the large springs in the vicinity of Troy i China Grove W. P.
