THE WASHINGtON KST: SUNDAY; ,1905. OGI OLLOWING the precedent of nearly a century, not only the President and his wife, but the Vice President and all the members of the Cabinet, will hold receptions on New Year's Day, following the opening event at the White House. In every case the official hostesses will have a large and representative company of assistants, and the visitors be restricted to the men of the official and social world, no women being expected at the receptions of New Year's afternoon. The receiving hours are generally from 3 until 6 o'clock, although one or two hostesses a announced that they will begin their receptions at 2-30. The Admiral of the Navy and Mrs.

Dewey, who have, ever since their marriage, been among the official hosts of New Year's Day, will this season be obliged to omit that hospitality on account of Mrs. Dewey's illness, which is much to be deplored, ouite apart from the regret felt for this always gracious hostess, as it robs the daj of one of its most attractive features. For the first time in eight years there will be a Vice Presidential home open on New Tear's Day, while another official home not invariably included in the New Year's receptions will be that of the Speaker of the House of Representatives. At the White House the President and Mrs. Roosevelt will be assisted by Mrs Fairbanks and the ladles of the Cabinet, who, as in previous years, will stand in line in the Blue Room, while some fifty or sixty additional guests will be invited to assist, but not to receive in the Blue Room.

Mrs. Fairbanks will have with her Mrs. Hale, Mra Burrows, Mrs. Spooner, Mrs. Elkins, Mrs.

Foraker, Mrs. Alger, all of the Senatorial circle; Mrs. Henderson, Mrs. Charles Denby. Mrs.

Robert Patterson, Mrs. William Bailey, Mrs. A. L. Brick, Mrs.

John W. Timmons, Miss Kean, Miss McMillan, Miss Foraker, Miss Boardman, Alice Gordon Parker, Miss Louise Maxwell, Miss Mary Southerland, Miss Ridgely, Miss Perkins, and Miss Margaret Wade. Mrs Root, wife of the Secretary of State, will have no reception, but, with 1 Secretary, will entertain the members of the Diplomatic Corps and ladies the embassies and legations at breakfast at noon. Sternberg, wife of the former Surgeon General of the Army, Mrs. Charles H. Keep and Mrs. Horace Taylor, wives of the Assistant Secretaries of the Treasury; Mrs. Dolliver, wife of the Senator from Iowa; Mrs.

J. A. T. Hull, wife of Representative Hull, also of Iowa; Mrs. Conner, Mrs.

Gallinger, Mrs. Herman Schreiner, Mrs. Anderson, wife of Justice Anderson; Mrs. Robert I. Fleming, Mrs.

Wedding Gift Contains Signatures of Prominent Citizens of Havana, Philadelphia, Dec. autograph album, wrought in gold and hand painted, and containing the signatures of hundreds of prominent citizens of Havana, who have sent it as a wedding gift to Miss Alice Roosevelt, has been brought to Philadelphia by Dr G. Mascaro, who is studying at the University of Pennsylvania. After it has been on exhibition for some thne in the Cuban consulate in this city, prominent natives of Havana residing here will be Invited to inscribe their names therein, and the album will taken by Dr. Mascaro to Washington and turned over to the Cuban Minfster, who will make the presentation.

This album is said to be the first wedding present to Miss Roosevelt from a foreign country. It was begun in 1902, when the Presidents Nflaughter visited Havana.
