There's no other word for what happened in the game between the University of California-San Diego and Menlo (Calif.) College last Saturday? The two teams became involved in a benA-dearing brawl with 6:48 to go in the first half and the officials ended up slapping Menlo with 12 count 'em, 12 technical fouls, UC-San Diego guard Rob Rittgers then stepped to the foul line and sank 24 count 'em, 24 straight free throws. Menlo was also awarded four technical shots following the melee and made three.

Thus, it went from having an 11-point lead (27-16) to a 10-point deficit (40-30) without the clock moving a single tick. UC-San Diego eventually won the game, 110-85. Reaves makes presence felt You have to admire kids like Iowa's Michael Reaves. He Nov 14 Jerry Judge, Scranton. Pa.

Named Glenn Adams, manager, and Rick Moe Lorenzen From working OT to fidgety feet Sights and scenes from three weeks of wandering the BigTen: Jan. 6, Iowa City The game between Iowa and Indiana has been over for more than an hour but Al Lorenzen is still in uniform, still on the court and still shooting free throws. Despite Iowa's 14-point victory, Lorenzen is upset by the fact that he made only half of his 10 foul shots. He's trying to regain his stroke. Jan.

9, West Lafayette As the national anthem is being played, Jeff Moe already has on his game face and his game feet In contrast to his teammates, who are a row of resolute statues, the Hawkeyes' hyperactive senior fidgets and bounces from foot to foot in anticipation of his last game before his least-favorite fans. "I just want to play well enough to make them hate me," he says. Jan. 14, Columbus Official Jim Bain is taking a stroll at one end of the court during warmups prior to the Iowa-Ohio State game when a leather-lunged voice rises up out of a mass of crimson and gray: "Hey Bain, why don't you retire?" Bain smiles and sweeps a bead of sweat from his familiar balding brow. "Next year I think IU wear a hairpiece," he says to a covey of Iowa reporters seated court-side.

"Maybe they won't recognize me." But he Reaves has stuck with it and is making solid contributions for the Hawks this season as an all-around player. "When I first heard about Michael Reaves, I heard he couldn't shoot," said Coach Tom Davis. "He's shown that to be absolutely untrue." Reaves, in fact, led the Hawkeyes in free throw shooting going into Thursday night's game with Illinois and has shown an ability to hit three-pointers, too. Davis, by the way, isn't the only one who feels good right now about Michael Reaves. Reaves feels pretty good about himself.

"I feel like I'm playing the best basketball of my life," he said. "But I've still got a lot of room for improvement." Transfers needed Just call Western Michigan Transfer U. Broncos aren't having a very good season they're 3-8 and winless in Mid-American Conference play but they'd really be in trouble without a pair of imports from other Division I schools who have scored about half their points. Forward Eh' Parker, formerly of Iowa State, leads them in scoring at 21.2 points per game and former Michigan State guard Mark Brown chips in 20.4 per outing. 1975 Mor 24 Charley Green, Cleveland Apr 10 Oliver Wright, Honolulu KO Apr 24 Robert Yorborough, Toronto KOI May 14 Ernie Smith, Las Vegas, Nev.
